"Daisy! It's so good to see you again!"
"You too!" She pulled me into a hug unexpectedly and I accepted her greeting by patting her back. Val and her would hang out all the time when we were younger, and she's always been an affectionate person with everyone. "Mark ran out to the store to grab a few things, but he should be back soon. Please make yourself at home."
I watched a show on the couch for a while as I waited for him to get home. After about a half hour, I heard the door open and the sound of grocery bags rustling. I made my way to Mark to help put away groceries. When we were done, we hung out on the couch watching the show I was watching before.
"So like, what's our next move?" He asked, bored of just sitting on the couch.
"Uh, I guess we could play something. What games do you have here?"
After an hour or two of playing board games in his kitchen, I yawned as I stretched my arms out. "Oh, now that you're losing, you're suddenly tired?" He asked, chuckling.
"I just need some coffee or something," I said, laughing with him.
"How do you like it?" He asked, standing from his spot at the table.
"You really don't need to get me it for me," I protested, standing from my seat with a blanket draped around my shoulders. "You already got me hot chocolate again today, and then this blanket. It's like you're spoiling me or something."
"Well, like I always say, what are possible future fiancés for?" He asked, turning his coffee maker on.
"Well, I'm not going to be spending a whole lot of time with you even if we go through with this, so don't get me used to you being so sweet."
"Ouch," he said, grabbing a mug for me.
"I mean you'll be doing your own thing, I'll be doing mine, and I imagine we'll only be coexisting together. I mean, how much time do you think Angelina and Brad really spend together?"
"Are you really comparing us to Angelina and Brad?"
"We're both busy people, and I'm one hundred percent sure we'll be iconic—if we go through with this—"
"Daisy," I looked up at him during the small pause he left between his words. "Do you know how many times you've said 'if we go through with this' in the past few hours? You're overthinking this a lot. I'm not asking for an answer today, or tomorrow, or even within the next year, so there's no pressure at all. Even if you do agree and somewhere down the line you want to back out, I'll understand. I just know that this is what I want and need, so if you don't want this, that's okay." A moment or two passed while I stood in front of this man, holding onto the blanket that was around me.
"Thank you." I couldn't think of anything else to say. He'd made me feel comfortable. I wasn't pressured into doing anything, and I know he doesn't want me to even love him.
"Of course," he said gently before he grabbed a few snacks from around the kitchen.
Later that night I was eating dinner across from Nana. "I'm so glad your parents went home," she said, sighing.
"Me too," I answered, looking down at my food, not bothering to eat any of it.
She loudly cleared her throat and I looked up to her glaring at me and then towards the full plate in front of me. I picked up my fork slowly before beginning to eat. She relaxed herself again.
