CHAPTER 1 - The Start Of Something New

His hands are in my hair as we kiss for the very first time. I smell the cologne on his shirt and my heart skips a beat as I can't imagine a better first kiss. All of a sudden, it feels like the weight of the world has been lifted off my shoulders as I pull him closer. He seems a little surprised but smiles and keeps introducing his lips to mine.

Unfamiliar voices flood my head chanting and cheering. It isn't until I hear Ricky's voice deviate from the noise and shout "Go EJ!" that I realize they aren't really in my head.

We both immediately stop and turn to see the whole gang huddled around the booth at a huge window of the pizza shop we unfortunately happened to be standing right in front of.

Everyone's whistling and poking fun at us through the glass by making "ooooh" noises as if we were in the first grade. I hear Carlos squeal "Yes Gina you better work girl!"

I lock eyes with Ashlyn and blush as I see her laugh. She looks bewildered and excited all at the same time.

I hear EJ lean close to my ear and whisper. "Should we give them one more?"

I giggle and respond "Sure why not. We've been preforming all night might as well give them a show."

I grab EJ by his shirt collar and kiss him again as everyone erupts into screams. I liked this feeling of being spontaneous. If you had told me I'd be kissing a boy in front of my friends a month ago I would've thought you were crazy, but life does that sometimes. It throws you crazy curveballs.

EJ and I simultaneously read each other's minds. We love our friends but they're still theatre kids at the end of the day and can be annoying as heck sometimes. 

EJ grabs my hand and we start walking away from Slices back to the direction of his car. 

"Want to go somewhere a little less public?" He jokes gesturing to our captivated audience both watching us and bombarding Ashlyn for answers at the same time.

"If it's with my big brother then of course!" I tease while nudging him.

EJ makes a face and cringes. "Too soon."

 "Definitely not soon enough. With the chocolates and the siblings I think we're finally even."

I squeeze his hand to let him know I was joking as we walk down the sidewalk. I've never been a "romance" kind of girl but the silence of the street mixed with the stillness of the wind and the illumination of the streetlights made my heart glow inside. It was a new feeling but one I wanted to last forever.

EJ picks up his bag from the sidewalk, unlocks the door and I get into the passenger seat. He gets in the other end and just stares at me with a slight grin on his face.

"I've wanted to do that for the longest time."

I smile back at him and say. "Me too."

He puts the key into the engine and I decide to make another brave, yet scary, move.

"Tonight for me has somehow turned to be all about taking risks so I'm just going to put it all out there. Will you be my boyfriend?"

I watch as his face darkens and his eyes dart away from mine. "Gina I'm sorry but no."

My face drops and I feel my stomach fall to the floor. I think I was going to be sick.

"...oh"

"Because I wanted to be the one to ask you!"

 The blood rush back to my face as I punch him in the arm.

"Don't you ever do that to me again you almost gave me a heart attack!"
