I flashed past Brooklyn using the slight current that was provided to me, but before I could make it to the narrowing canyons that were in view a school of fish swam in front of me, blocking my path and letting Brooklyn swim by and make it to the layers of rock first. Brooklyn let out a triumphant shout and swam back to me with a victorious smirk on her face. When she stopped beside me she fed the dolphin she was on a handful of shrimp. I gave her a small pout and said "That wasn't fair, the school of fish swam right in front of me and blocked my path" Brooklyn snickered and said "It's not my fault they do as they please, and quite frankly, I'm surprised they didn't break apart when they saw the dolphin you were riding." I only shook my head and suggested that we turn back now. Brooklyn nodded and followed behind me when I turned around to head back to the kingdom.
Halfway there Brooklyn brought up "Did your Aunt tell you about the Prince of the Caribbean coming to take your hand in marriage?" I only scoffed in disgust "Yes, unfortunately, it seems my Aunt is so keen on trying to get me married to someone. And it annoys me to the depths of the hadalphelagic zone!" Brooklyn only patted my back reassuringly and said in a sympathetic tone "Don't worry, maybe he could be different, you never know." I turned around in said in an exasperated voice "But I do know Brook! None of them change, all they care about is my looks and the money! I want to be married to someone who's true and honest, and not by someone who gets disgusted at the smallest spec of algae."
The rest of the way was silent until they were rode back into town and heard the lively commotion of the townsfolk. We put our dolphins back in their stalls when we made it back to the castle and when we were about to swim inside the front doors were burst open and there was my aunt who had a panicked expression until she saw me. She quickly grabbed my arm and gave me a scolding look asking where I've been for the past two to three hours. I didn't have time to say anything as my Aunt grabbed my arm and pulled me into the castle. We finally made it up to my room where my Aunt made me sit on my bed and with multiple maids standing next to me with multiple dresses for me to try on. I turned to my Aunt to say something but she was already out the door, so I sighed and mentally prepared myself for a personal fashion show and I could see at the corner of my eye Brooklyn giving me a look of sympathy.
I grabbed the first dress and stepped into the closet to try it on, it was a normal sleek orange dress that went to to the middle of my midnight blue tail, but I showed it to my friend and she shook her head. I grabbed the next dress which was a deep purple, and the dress went to the middle of my tail as well but it was more of a big frilly dress with no shoulders. I walked out of my closet with a grimace and said "This is a hard no, it's pretty yes, but I don't want to attract myself to the prince like a remora to a shark." Brooklyn nodded in understanding and I continued "Besides this is a formal event, not a club." After 20 more dresses and getting no where with none of them we both settled on a gold dress with the shoulders straps off to the side that had ruffles that went down to the bottom of the dress. Now, it was time to pick jewelry to go with it making me internally groan. I sat down in the chair in front of my dresser mirror and patiently waiting for one of the maids to finish. Lastly, one of the maids grabbed the curling iron and curled my blonde hair for about ten minutes and finished with putting light eye shadow, not that much mascara and a light layer of red lipstick.
When the maids finally left I groaned in agony and Brooklyn lightly patted my back and told me she should be going to get ready as well. I lightly waved her off and moved over to look out my window and watch the variety of fish pass by through the water. I then looked up and saw the sun setting making the water look slightly orange and a hint of pink. I stared off into space at the beautiful view in front of me and my mind slowly went back to the two narrowing canyons off in the horizon and made me wonder what was on the other side because no one dared to venture past its stone structure for as long as I could remember. I wondered to myself, What's past the stone that no one's dared to go see? A determined expression was brought onto my face as I went back to my closet. I knew the sun was setting, but I would be quick and come right back in time for the party.
