October 1995 Queens, NY

the breeze smoothly blew my curls back as I escaped the doors of Live. I worked the night shift 9 PM until 2 A.M. I hated it but it paid the bills. Being a bottle girl in 95 brings me home a smooth $500 every night.

All the balling niggas come in on Saturday nights. Pagers beeping, heads turning, hips whining, drinks flowing.

Shit was straight for me niggas was just annoying. I hated these niggas. I just got out of a bad relationship of 4 years fresh out of high school. I'm 22. Escaping somebody who had a hold on you to the point you don't talk to your own mother.

Yes I know I'm a dumb Broad. I chose a nigga over my own mama. I'm broken I can't even talk to my brothers or look at my little sister in the face when I see her.

"Fuck" I said as I got in the car blowing my breath into my hands as I let my raggedy silver box Toyota warm up.

I pulled off heading towards my apartment downtown south side queens. I couldn't wait to move. I had plans to move on the upper east side in exactly a month.

I kept my stash in my aunts house on the eastside who helped raise me. She's a nurse, no kids and helped raise me. She don't know about the money tho , I run it in and out without her ever questioning it.

I threw my crochet scarf over my hooks behind my door as I shut it with my foot, shivering as the heat swallowed my petite body.

I had class in a couple hours, I was a freshman down at soutside Queens community college.

I ran me a bath with lavender Epsom salts and bubbles.

I let my body sink into the water as I set my alarm clock to ring and wake me in a hour for class.

1 hour later...

"Beep beep beep"

My alarm blared through my raggedy 1 bedroom New York apartment.

I stretched up letting the Luke warm water rush down the drain from my feet while cutting on the shower to rinse off the soap.

Once doing my hygiene I dressed in a Pair of high waist Tommy Hilfiger mom jeans paired with a skin tight tommy shirt tucked in with my black belt. I paired my outfit with a pair of all white classic Reebok and my white tommy coat with the logo off to the left shoulder side.

Don't get me wrong, I was a stylish woman if I do say so myself. I kept myself together.

I stepped out into the October air as I made my way to my car.
