The sun was shining bright on the bluest sky, the world was beautiful, safe, livable. A great place, isn't it?Well.......
No. It was all in the past.
It only happened in a matter of days, the days stretched longer, the sun slowed down each passing hour until it had stopped at the end of the skies, casting the world its dying light, trapping the world in it's everlasting twilight . And from the shadows rised the creatures humans called "monsters".
There were ghouls. Long claws ,sharp fangs, and the craving for human flesh,
And beasts with scales and horns, wings and tails, and terror they are equipped with.
The monsters terrorized each town, burning and taking it down to the ground. Killing the citizens, pulling their limbs apart and tearing thier flesh as the blood scattered on the filthy streets.
This is the world now.....
"I miss the old times, the times when the world was much more safer" Aina said as they lay inside the tent. She remembered when everything was so much safer. The monsters took everything from her, all she loved. All her family. She only has herself and Aino-her sister now.
She took a deep breath, taking in the cold winter air that had been perfumed by the burning pine on the bonfire outside.
Aina closed her eyes, she wished she'd fall asleep fast.
They both laid silent, felling the ground lulling them to sleep gently.
"Paholainen! " a man's voice rung on her ears. His voice echoed through the dark forest, the scream was followed by a sharp sound of a breaking tree.
The sisters jolted upwards. They ran outside and saw the man hanging on the antlers of a humongous elk, from the faint light that showered on it, they can see that it's head was made of shiny red wood, it's antlers were branches that grew in every direction, it's body was made of a thousand twigs.
"Demon! " another man shouted.
"Hii-hiidin hirve" Aino said below her breath, breathing sharply. There was fear in her eyes.
A tall thin humanoid creature emerged from the shadows of the trees, it had small beady eyes that reflected the orange light from the flames, it's limbs were thin that resembled branches.
"Hi-hiisi" Aina whispered , refering to the demon.
The hiisi made an unholy screech that Shook the forest. It made a very large grin and the elk charged to their direction, the people scattered and ran away, trying to save their lives, the ones who were unfortunate were rammed by the elk, its sharp antlers burrowed through their stomachs ,exiting at their backs. The elk kicked on their bonfires, spreading the fire into the trees.
"This demons won't stop until they kill us all" Aina clutched her jaw.
"Aina! " she heared Aino's voice over the screams of the people, she was in the middle of the rampage, reaching her hand out for Aina.
"No! Aino! " Aina screamed for her sister, the hiisi was running towards her.
It picked up Aino, held her by the arm and raised her up, it ran it's thin nails on Aino's cheek, blood swelled from from the cut, slowly dripping down her chin.
"Let go off her! " Aina screamed desperately, she pulled out a wooden spear from the ground.
Aino was crying as she looks at Aina, she was uttering silent words of plea to help her. Aina screamed loudly and pointed her spear towards it. The hiisi made a low rumbling chuckle, it's shoulders rise and fell fastly. It ran towards Aina and with one breath it had her in it's hands too, Aina pushed her spear on the demon's shoulder as Aino kick on the hiisi, it dropped them and turned to the elk, the elk ran towards them, stomping them with it's hooves, the sisters rolled on the ground trying to avoid it's stomps that missed them by mere inches.
A strong kick from the Elk sent Aina flying, her back hit a tree that made a loud thud. Aina's sight was blunted, her hearing dulled, the screams of people grew distand, as the forest around her dissolved slowly.
"Aina! " she heared Aino's sharp scream that rised above all the noises, she tried hard bringing her mind into her own body. She clutched her fingers trying to regain control.
The hiisi had it's back to her as it drag Aino deeper into the burning forest.
"Let go off her! " she said gritting her teeth and shoved the sharp wood on the hiisi's back. The hiisi fell on the ground, clutching it's chest where the sharp end of the wood pursed through.
It made an unholy screech that filled the never-ending unholy night. The Elk fell on the ground, shaking, as if it shares the hiisi's pain, the twigs on it's body loosened, it's wooden horns one by one had fall off.
Aina offered Aino a hand and helped her get up.
"No one can hurt you anymore" she said to her sister and stomped on the hiisi's head, it made its last screech and laid there. On the ground. Dead.
She picked up a torch that had been burning on the ground and threw it into the remains of the hiisi. The fire swallowed it's whole body without too much effort, like yet another monster eating one of its own. The fire grew large and tall.
"Look" Aino pointed behind them, the orange light from the fires reflected on her watery eyes.
The elk had cought fire too, it moved weakly in a very unnatural manner, fire crept into it's wooden body, it burned the strongest, brightest as well. Lighting the already lighted forest. Hot red smoke rised from the fires, bringing light to the dark sky above.
Aino wrapped an arm on Aina, resting her head on her shoulders. The sister breathe heavy and they watch as the elk burns, feeling the heat hitting their cheeks.
