"Grandma is going to boil our souls alive!" Mirae exclaimed as she ran after Y/n as fast as possible to reach home before the break of dawn.

The sun was already dimly visible across the horizon and the atmosphere was rather cool. Very few people or the early birds sat on the open courtyards of their houses and it was rather difficult to avoid all the interactions and reach back home.

When the two girls had finally reached the house, they panted for breath.

"Oh gosh, we're safe-

"G-grandma" Mirae whispered to Y/n as soon as she spotted the old lady.

"Let's enter through the back door, or we're gonna get boiled in that broth today" Y/n suggested.

"Aah! It was a tiring night!" Mirae exclaimed as she lay on the not-so-soft mattress and closed her eyes.

"But you didn't tell me what you saw"

"Oh right, did you perhaps have to wait for Prince Jungwon?"

"No, why?"

"Oh, so that Was the time you met Prince Mark."

"But why do you ask?"

"Well, you said Prince Jungwon was wearing his mask seated in the armchair when you reached?" Mirae questioned and Y/n nodded her head in response. "He went to meet the King just before that"

"What?"

From the corner, the Prince stood still, his hands kept politely one above the other as a sign of respect and his head was bowed low.

The comparatively old man sat on the bed, looking carefully at a picture held tight in his brittle yet royal hands. He was the King.

"Your mother was a great woman."

"She was the greatest, father." Jungwon replied.

"You know, that you don't have to wear that when you are with me. I won't mind-

"I'm sorry to interrupt but many others won't like it."

"I'm your father before a King, Jungwon."

"I know father.." he whispered.

"It has been three years and you still have kept quiet about the whole incident. You never spoke for yourself."

"I don't have an alibi for that father."
