Y/N L/N had moved from a neighbouring town and to Coal Creek when she was 8 years old with her mother and father. Elenore and William L/N were known to be kind, rich and gracious, residing in a large 2 storey house with their now, 16 year old daughter. They kept up their appearances around town, always wore the nicest clothes and brought the fancy bread at the grocers. Though well respected, many were afraid of the L/N family. And Y/N couldn't agree more with the town. Her parents were horrible people behind closed doors. Fighting, screaming, hitting, punishing. It was dark and cold in their ranch and she wanted nothing more than to escape.
Y/N didn't have any real friends. Sure, she ate lunch with the 'poodle skirt' girls, as everyone would say, but there was no real substance to the friendships. All they did was bully each other and gossip about other girls. It was toxic to say the very least and all Y/N wanted to do was throw Sherry's milkshake over her head and storm out. She wanted real friends: ones she could talk to, wear 'ugly' clothes around, laugh so hard till she cried with. She wanted a genuine person.
She caught the attention of many boys in her school, her mother gracing her with a gorgeous smile and well-sized bust that grabbed all the boys attention. But she had no interest. She knew they only wanted her body and that drove her mad. Did no one care enough to want to know her? To like her? To love her? Despite Y/N knowing what all the boys wanted to do to her, she remained naïve and innocent, clueless to many advances and the double meanings of the boys' words.
Arvin Russell was orphaned when he was 9, sent to his grandmother's to live with family upon the death of his mother and father. Since his arrival, he'd been excluded and labelled as an outcast. Picked on, beaten up and belittled by almost everyone in town. His family earning the nickname 'the orphans'. Lenora, his step-sister, had been left at his grandmother's house for what was only going to be a few hours when she was a baby, but her mother never returned. 7 years later, her mother's body was found. The two cared deeply for each other, Arvin being incredibly protective over Lenora, knowing what those assholes at her school did to her.
Y/N remembered the day Arvin Russell moved to town. He knew Emma Russell, his grandmother from church and thought she was lovely but her parents thought otherwise. Y/N was banned from interacting with the Russell's once they had all shown up to church one Sunday. Arvin never returned to church after that first Sunday. He didn't pray. His father did all the time which made him think his daddy was fighting the devil all the time. Arvin kept his head down in school, making no effort to make friends and to avoid the constant fights he was dragged into. But once Lenora had begun getting bullied, he had bloodied his knuckles countless times.
Arvin had always been very careful with his timing and when one particular day he gets the perfect timing, his life changes more than he could ever imagine.
