Second officer Charles Lightoller would be standing inside of the bridge. The captain would walk over to him. Charles would say. "I don't think I've ever seen such a flat calm." The captain responded "Its like a mil pond. Anyways, I'm off to bed. Maintain course and heading." Charles said "Yes sir." A while later first officer William Murdoch would  take over Charles duty "Have you seen those binoculars? asked William. "No I haven't."  Responded Charles.
