The Report ends and we all file out of the room

The Report ends and we all file out of the room. Charlotte tells me about her life as a Three, so I tell her about mine.

When we get to the dining hall, room, whatever its called, and there are name cards in front of the 35 seats set out.

I quickly find mine, seated next to a Five, the Selected from Hudson, Seira, and another Pamela, a Four, from Yukon. Charlotte is seated further down, and she starts chatting with her neighbor, so I turn to Seira and start talking with her.

Then servers come out and place food on the tables, and theirs steak, chicken, pig, and spaghetti. Spaghetti with clams, bruschetta, tomato sauce.

Seira grabs the steak and grabs several pieces and starts digging in. I follow suit and dish spaghetti with bruschetta onto my plate, followed by steak, then chicken. I look over at Pamela.

Her back is ramrod straight, she's not slouching, she's bringing the food to her mouth, not leaning over her plate. Basically, she looks like the version of what proper eating etiquette should look like.

I follow Pamela's example. Everything is going fine until the doors to the dining hall burst open when they were previously closed.

"Hello everyone!" A cheery voice exclaims. Everyone's eyes swivel to this blonde, cheery girl. "Hi, sorry I'm late! Everyone wanted to see me! Also that I arrived later and basically had the salon moved to my room! Its great. Anyway, my name is Claire Dovins, and I am a Two from Whites!"

"Hi!" Seira exclaims, waving at her as Claire takes a seat across from us. "I'm Seira, I'm a Five, from Hudson!"

Claire looks at Seira with tons of distaste in her eyes. "I pity the royal family, forced to take in the lower castes so that it would look fair. You do know that King Phillip only added Five's because he had too. Fives and lower are dirt." Claire says, taking a slice of steak.

Claire's voice kept rising steadily until everyone could hear her. My jaw drops open and I quickly close it and close my eyes.

"Are you kidding?" A girl stands at the other table and stares Claire down. "That is just what you would expect from a spoiled Two. You know who the worst castes are? Four's and up. You Two's and Three's act as if your perfect."

Now I'm out of my seat. "That is not true for most of the Three's! You aren't a Three. My mom was a Six before." I state, crossing my arms and glaring.

"You can't act as if all Three's and Two's are bad. Some of them are good." I add. The girl huffs and rolls her eyes. "Everyone knows that you're only here, 'Lady Iris' because your mom was the Selected that almost married the king. You don't know anything."

"More then you do." I snap, narrowing my eyes at her. "Whatever." The girl walks out of the hall, causing a big commotion.

I sit down and pretend like that never happened.

Cause maybe, it didn't.
