Demetri creates a portal bringing us into the back of a nightclub in what I imagine is West Hollywood. Even from outside, the music was pulsating. It had a hypnotic effect making me feel at ease and anxious at once. I felt my wings clicking to the beat involuntarily before I noticed the man next to me looked severely different.
Instead of a ten-foot demon, I was next to a rugged man with tanned skin and a thick beard—still snug under his trench coat and fedora. Demetri gave me a nod signaling for me to enter the mortal realm from my heavenly form.
"It's for safety," Demetri assures me.
"I would feel safer with my wings."
"Would you feel safe if the entire room filled with demons who hated angels? Demons dream of raping an angel. You will not need to stay hidden for long. There is someone we must meet. If things go awry, then feel free to defend yourself how you see fit. I beg of you not to ruin our cover." Demetri pleads with me at this point as we heard the voices nearing the door, clasping his hands as if in prayer.
I sighed, entering the mortal plane entirely, my sword and armor were gone, but my white suit remained matching white loafers. Demetri smiled in approval, nudging me forward as if I owned this place as good as I looked draped in all white.
The door swung open with two gunmen carrying AK-47s wearing black sunglasses. Demetri quickly stepped in front of me, holding up his hands.
"Gentlemen, gentlemen, how are you, my friends?" Demetri said in a heavy Arabic accent he manifested with his disguise.
The two people heir eyes hadn't left me, but their arms holstered on their backs.
"Who is he?" one asks, clicking his teeth with a whistle.
"He is a good friend with your boss. We told to come to the back to skip the line and grab a meal on the way." Demetri explained, rubbing his belly.
They looked at each other. Demetri slammed their skulls together while ripping their bodies out of the doorway. With another grand slam, they fell unconscious.
"Get changed. You're already bringing too much attention." Demetri sighed as he took the man's suit and gun.
I snap my fingers, losing the suit, quickly stripping off the guard and rushing his clothes on my body. Demetri did the same process, taking their socks, underwear, and undershirt throwing them in the trashcan.
"What are you doing?" I asked, alarmed.
"If you leave them dressed, they'll feel confident enough to come outside. If the guards are stripped naked, they'll do whatever it takes to get home. The humans are ashamed of their flesh." Demetri notes with his thick inflection.
I nodded, learning a lot from his different approach. He stepped back inside. The kitchen was moving too quickly to notice our brisk pace inside the building. I thought he had a contact, but the way Demetri moved, he had a lead. And judging by the armed security, our meeting wasn't scheduled.
"You go first. Our lead will recognize I'm a demon." Demetri halts as we reach the center of the music. The dance floor was relatively empty.
A few people were on the floor, moving as if in a trance with liquor in their cups. If you looked close enough, you could see the tiny demons and demon spores swimming in their glass, naked to the human eye. The demons sang and cheered as the humans gulped them up. The bartenders possessed husks, slinging out more demons by the bottle and pour or shot glasses of spores.
"This goes deeper and longer than I realized," I whispered.
Demetri probably couldn't hear me over the music. He seemed to be speaking, but I could hear nothing over the music. I could listen to nothing but the melody. I felt Demetri keeping a tight grip on me as he guided me through the mind-numbing beats. I felt like I had drunk a whole cup of dirty sprite with purple in my cup. The music held a strong power over me.
