❝ friends? ❞ ❝ friends. ❞
AS the salty ocean water sloshes against a ship with pirate flag, the screams of a woman giving birth fill the inside of the captain quarters.
"come on! just one more push, love!" it was utter chaos, as the woman's screams filled her husband's ear drums. "you're doing so well, love." he whispers into her ear, stroking her hair and kissing her forehead.
soon enough, the cries of a baby girl fill the air. cleaned up and curled in a blanket, one of the crewmates hand her over to her parents. "she's absolutely lovely." jeremy cradles his child close to his chest and walks over to his wife, lily.
"look, love." he handed the baby over to her, lily's face stained with tears and sweat, she laughs. "she looks exactly like you!" she whispers, "what should we name her?" lily asked, jeremy thought about it for a minute, watching the small human coo at her mother.
"what about daphne?"
"we can't keep her! we have to send her off!"
"no! i won't jeremy!"
"we have to! it's for her safety!"
it was late into the night, the husband and wife bicker about what to do with their, now sixth month old, daughter.
"we have no choice, my love. if we don't, they'll hunt us down with her and possibly hang her too." jeremy's face saddened at the sight of the love of his life breaking down into tears. he caressed her cheek, "we have to give her up to marcus." hearing his brother's name, lily thought about it for a while. "come on, love. we can trust him. he's your best friend." jeremy grabbed her hands in his, lily sighed.
"okay, but if we get out of this alive-"
"yes." jeremy cuts her off by placing a chaste kiss on her forehead, "we will come back for her." he smiles lovingly at his wife, as she smiles back with a hint of sorrow.
even after leaving their child with her uncle and his wife, it didn't matter. for her uncle was a vitch as well, being hunted down, and they found them, even if they lived in the most secluded parts of the hill tops, there was no escape.
"daphne!" marcus called out to her from downstairs, a nine-year old comes running down. "yes, dad?" "they've found us." he announced, daphne's eyes widening.
