"Why?" With clenched fists Cole stared at his team mate. The girl stood there, with her arms crossed in front of her chest, and didn't say a single word.

The annoying beeping of the machines was the only sound in the bare room. It drove him crazy, let his blood boil and his heart race.

Jay lay there. surrounded by monitors, cables, infusions. Pale as the sheets he was laying on and so skinny in those oversized hospital gowns, that he looked as if he would disappear in it. That made Cole feel anxious and furious at the same time. He had been waiting for Jay. The whole damn time! The doctors had told him, Jay just barely escaped death. And now Nya had the audacity to show up, freshly showered, well fed and with that pseudo-concerned attitude he hated so much.

"I asked you why you're here!"

The girl huffed and tried to push him away but Cole didn't move an inch and finally she looked up.

"Let me in! I'm his girlfriend! I don't need your permission to see him."

Her intense stare was frightening. It almost seemed like she wasn't aware of what she had done.

"You don't deserve him," he growled.

Blue eyes met his dark ones. "Neither do you!"

That left him speechless. Did Nya know? No! That was impossible! But what did she mean?

She used the seconds he hesitated and slipped past him, sank down on the chair that was standing next to the bed and took Jay's hand. She seemed tense. "Did the doctors say anything?"

"Go and ask them yourself! I'm not your secretary, Nya."

The way she looked at him made clear that she was about to loose patience. "Cole, skip that and tell me what they said!"

"You wanna know, huh?" Growling and already on the edge of loosing his mind, he stared at her. "Now you care about him? After you left him?"

Was that fear that flashed up in her eyes? But she hadn't the time for an answer.

"What do you mean she left him?"

Cole whirled around and stumbled. He hadn't even noticed that their other team mates had arrived.

"I haven't left him!" the girl stated.

"Oh yeah?" Lava welled burning hot through his veins. He was about to loose his mind, but somehow he managed to stand still. "You saw how badly he was injured and you left him there. He almost fucking died! So what do you mean by haven't left him, huh? How do you call that?"

Lloyd flinched and Zane shook his head. "Language, Cole!"

"Screw you, Snowflake! we almost lost one of our own because Nya didn't help him!"

Zane was as pale as Jay and Lloyd seemed lost for words. But not their firecracker.

"Woah!" he shouted with clenched fists. "I'm sure my sister didn't leave him on purpose, so watch your mouth, Pebbles!"

"Or what else, huh?"

"I didn't know!" Nya's voice sounded so strange, somehow thin and weak. But nevertheless she jumped up and went to her brother. "I thought he was fine when I left. He told me to go, and that's what I did after Lloyd called for me!"

"He told you?" Cole made a few steps in her direction and had trouble to not simply grab her and throw her out of the window. It was so damn hard to not give in to that urge! "I saw you leaving and he lay in a sea of blood, deeper than the water under Styx, Nya! It was obvious that he won't make it without any help! So don't you dare lying to me and telling me you didn't know!"
