The room was dark and my skin was sticky for the humidity in the room. As my eyes began to adjust to the lighting I could make out the features of my room, it was small and simple but thats how I like it.
I slowly slipped my feet out from under the sheets and planted them on the cool, hard wood floor. I noticed the sound of rain lightly tapping against my window and that my window had been cracked open which is probably what made my room so densely humid. I rose and walked across the room towards the window, I watched outside as people from my apartment building ran for their cars with umbrellas and hoods covering their heads. Dark clouds covered the entire sky; the storm was finally here.
I stared out the window for a few more moments and watched as a flustered women struggled to get her children to the car but they were too busy splashing through the puddles and laughing to be bothered by their angry mother. A small smile made its way to my mouth and all I could do was shake my head. Before I starting looking like a stalker I decide to close my window and go out to see what Jen was up to.
The smell of soap and perfume floated throughout the apartment which meant that Jen was up and most likely just finished showering. She was in busy her room so I took it as a chance to watch some news before she walked out and declared that the news was boring and changed it to some show full of drama.
Sitting down on the couch I pulled the unfolded blanket that was draped on the back of the couch around my body. The temperature in the living room was much cooler than my room had been.
As the tv came to life I quickly flipped through the channels to find the news, the weatherman came across the screen and I stopped flipping.
He stated the storm was suppose to last throughout week and that there was a chance of sunshine on Saturday.
My stomach growled at me in protest drawing my attention away from the screen and towards the kitchen.
I poured myself a bowl of cereal and surveyed our small, messy apartment the living room and kitchen basically morphed together and three doors that lined the left wall-my room, the bathroom and Jen's room. It was small but it worked.I was ripped from my thoughts but a frantic Jen.
"Have you seen my phone?!?" She shouted as she began to search through the cushions on the couch.
I couldn't help but laugh at the sight I saw, her hair had yet to be brushed, she was missing her left sock and she was lacking a shirt. She was a mess more often than not so she was lucky to have me around.
"Umm Jen," I smiled slightly and pointed at the phone that sat on the small table next to the couch, "it's right there."
A look of relief washed over her face as she picked up her phone.
She smiled and said, "Thanks Lid, what would I do without y-"
Before she finished her sentence she glanced over at the tv noticing that the news was on.She shot a glare in my direction and finished by saying, "The news is so boring. What is wrong with you!"
She snatched the remote of the coffee table and began flipping through the channels."Well there's never anything on, on Sundays and I like to know what's going on in this town." I responded
while rinsing off my dishes."Yeah, yeah." She said flatly before giving up on trying to find some drama show to watch and just turned off the tv.
"I'm going to lunch with my mom you're welcome to come if you want but you'd have to take a shower." She joked as she made it obvious to look me up and down."I think I'll pass this time but tell her I say hi." I gave her a sarcastic grin.
Jen's mom was about the most awful person you'd ever meet but once every month Jen agreed to have a lunch date with her to help to mend their relationship. If you asked me I think it's complete bullshit and Jen does too but I think she feels like theres hope.
"Boo you whore." She childishly suck her tongue out at me and stalked back into her room to continue getting ready.
She came back out ten minutes later looking more put together. Her hair had been put into a neat bun, she now had shoes covering both her feet and a shirt covering her torso. And she hung her purse over her shoulder.
"Last chance to change your mind. It'll a lot of fun." She pleaded desperately.
"Looks like I'm going to have to miss out on all the fun this time." I grinned at her.
She let out a long frustrated sigh before disappearing into the hall.
