*the picture is of Miles.*
The thunder outside practically shook the walls of the apartment and the tv signal faded in and out. Jen still hadn't returned home so her and her mom must have actually got along this time.
I glanced towards the kitchen clock and it read 6:00. Jen probably wouldn't be back for another hour so I decided to just get take-out for dinner.
I scrambled to grab my keys out of my pocket as the rain beat against my back. After fumbling a few times I finally managed to unlock the door of my car. Once inside I put the key in the ignition, the car made a few odd noises before the motor roared to life. It was a rather shitty car but it got me where I needed to be and that's all that matter to me.
The street in front of me that was usually full of life, was rather dead at the time. People around here didn't like to drive in storms but I loved it.
The roads were always so quiet and the sky was always lit up with a purple hue. I loved the sound of the thunder rumbling around you and the thrill of the lighting cracking right in front of you. I was drawn to it; I was drawn to the danger of it.
I pulled through the drive thru of a small Chinese food restaurant. It was always my go to place.
"Hi Lidia. The usual?" A small Asian man appeared in the drive thru window wearing a big smile.
"You know me to well, Bo." I said with a cheerful smile.
"Alright. Be right back with your food and its on the house tonight." He gave me a wink before disappearing from the window.
I tipped my head back against the head rest and slowly let my eyes shut. Just as my eyes closed my phone buzzed in the center console. I reached for my phone and saw I had a text message from my boyfriend, Miles.
"I'm coming over okay?"
I sighed, I wasn't really in the mood for him right now. Lately it's been kind of rough and he likes to ignore his problems and act like they aren't there while I would rather just talk about it and figure how to fix it.
I replied with a simple, "k." Because I wasn't about to argue with him again. Even if I said no he still would have showed at my apartment and then another fight would have broke out.
Ive been living in Medford, Oregon for about 4 months now before this I was living with my parents in Wisconsin. For 3 of the months that I've been here Miles and I have been together. We met at the college because we were both studying psychology. We went out on a couple dates and the rest was pretty much history.
Lost in my own mind I had failed to notice that Bo had been waiting at the window for some time now.
"I'm so sorry, Bo. I was just zoning out thank you so much." I said rolling down my window and grabbing the bag for his hands.
" Its perfectly fine. Now you have a safe drive home Miss Lidia." He answered with a reassuring smile.
"Thank you, Bo. See you soon." I placed the car into drive and slowly pulled away from the restaurant.
When I arrived back at my apartment complex I saw Miles's obnoxiously, big truck was already park in the spot next to where I park mine. The truck still hummed with life so I knew he was waiting for me.
I stepped out of my car, And was met by Miles's broad figure. Before i was even able to greet him, he slipped his arms around my waist and pulled me in for a kiss. The second our lips met all I could taste was alcohol. He was drunk. That was the only reason he was here.
I push back him and watched as he stumbled back against his truck. He just laughed and tried to find his footing.
"You shouldn't be driving like this you know?" I said folding arms over my chest.
There was a long silence between us while he searched for the words that would not come. The rain had stopped but the thunder still roared around us.
"Yeah that's why I'm here." His words all slurred together and he looked awful.
My anger subsided and the tension in my body slightly relax. He was drunk and there was nothing I could do. There was no point in yelling at him either because he wouldn't remember it by morning anyways.
"Come on." I said softly before sliding underneath his arm and escorting him towards the building.
Getting him up the stairs towards our apartment was a bitch, he fell half a dozen times and it didn't make it any easier that he was twice my size.
When we finally made our trek to my apartment I found that the door had been left ajar.
Damn it Jen, you really need to learn how to close the door. She was rather careless and was always leaving the door open.
I pushed it fully open with my foot and Miles and I stumbled in together.
I expected to find Jen sitting on couch watching Gossip Girl but instead I was shocked to find a tall, broad figure standing in my living room.
I stood there stunned not knowing whether to yell for help or to try and confront him.
"Who the fuck are you?" My mouth started talking before my brain could even catch up. I guess I was going with the second option.
"Grayson, I'm Jen's brother. It's nice to meet you Lidia."
