I've got to work on my senior year paper, so here. I promise I will not leave this fic forever, just maybe for a week or so.
Promise.

The following morning, Avila and Elgin got up to the sound of something gurgling outside their window. Sleepy-eyed Avila shuffled over and pulled the curtains back to see a person floating there. Blinking sleep out of her eyes, Avila motioned for him to stay where he was. She ran to Elgin's bed and woke her up.

'You gotta come look at this!' The two girls returned to the window, but the merperson was gone. Avila sighed in defeat, then both girls jumped as the merboy popped back into the frame. They could see him laughing, and they joined him. They waved good bye to him and got ready. When Elgin finally got finished curling her long blonde hair, they gathered the books they needed for Transfiguration and went to the Great Hall for breakfast.

They got to Transfigurations, which was on the third floor down a short corridor, and went in. Since it was directly after breakfast, some people were still coming into class with biscuits and other food. Avila noted that Kane was already there, sitting in a knot of Gryffindors. He waved at Avila and motioned for them to come sit with them. Avila took one glance at his friends and decided that it was too early for confrontation. Kane looked hurt that she shook her head at him, and she gave him a soft smile. Avila and Elgin sat down in the back, with empty seats surrounding them. Kane gave his friends a dirty look and walked back to where the Slytherins were sitting.

'Kane,' Avila whispered, 'You can't ditch your house for two Slytherins!'

'YES, I can, and I just did.' He Accio'd his books, but they only made it halfway before dropping. Avila picked up her wand and flicked it towards herself, whispering 'Accio', not noticing that the teacher was standing quietly behind her. She floated the books to Kane's awaiting and surprised hands. They landed gently. Avila was startled when the teacher behind her spoke.

'That was the most graceful Accio I've ever seen from a first year.' She stepped in front of Avila, eyes widening when she looked at her green and silver striped tie. 'Five points to Slytherin,' she whispered. The Gryffindor students in the front of the class gasped. Kane was slightly blushing as he sat down beside Elgin. The professor watched him, glanced at his red and gold striped tie, and nodded approvingly. She walked to the front of the classroom and tapped her wand on the chalk board. Writing appeared there. The teacher started speaking.

'Good morning. I am Professor Weasley, and this is Transfiguration. We will start out with a reading of the Syllabus and then practice basic wand movements for our first lesson, turning a match into a needle.' The class progressed with decreasing looks back at the two Slytherins and one Gryffindor.
When the class ended, no one had made a needle appear, but the three in the back had managed to make their matches silver, thanks to the suggestion of their friend at the table last night. All three were awarded 3 points for their good attempts. Kane went off to Muggle Studies, with a pen from Elgin, and Avila and Elgin went back to the Common Room to drop their books off. Once done, they headed outside to soak up some sunlight and to check if they needed to change shoes for Care of Magical Creatures. Lunch time came and went and it was time to head back out for Care of Magical Creatures.
They went to the Groundskeeper's cabin, and Avila saw the half giant that escorted them in and helped them cross the lake.

'Do you think the half giant is the teacher?'

'HALF GIANT?!' Elgin screeched. Avila tried to shush her but the man heard them.

'Ello,' he called to them, 'Is it class time alrea'y? I'm 'Rofessor Hagrid. Are you all that's coming from Ravenclaw?' Avila's eyes widened as he was taking. Elgin answered him.

'Yes, sir. I'm Elgin and this is Avila. We're the two from Slytherin.' He nodded in understanding.

'We'll wait on the rest of the students, but in the mean time, you can find yourself a pair of gloves and eye gear that fits you.' They did what he said, and when they got back, there was group of Ravenclaws and two individuals, a girl and a boy, standing by themselves. Avila and Elgin walked up to the girl and recognized her as the quiet girl from the boat.

'Hi!' The girl exclaimed, once they had stopped. Avila was uncertain of how to take the girl's excitement.

'Hello,' Avila said calmly. They shook hands, the girl introducing herself as Becky. Elgin instantly started asking her how she got her golden blonde hair so 'kinky curly'. This provided Avila some new interesting words.
Becky's blue eyes lit up when Professor Hagrid walked out, saying that they were going into the Forbidden Forest, just along the edge, mind you, to find some botruckle eggs. Elgin didn't move when Professor Hagrid started. Avila walked back to her.

'I don't want to go into the Forest. There are so many scary things in there.'

'I thought Slytherins were supposed to be braver than that. Acting like a bloody Puff.' A boy with dark blonde hair walked from the group of Ravenclaws. He openly sneered at the two Slytherins. 'Everyone knows that the really dangerous stuff like Thestrals, centaurs and those gigantic spiders only live in the deep forest.'

'Actually, Zaf,' Becky called from behind Avila and Elgin, 'Threstrals aren't dangerous. They got thought of as dangerous because of how they look. And you can only see them if you've seen someone die.' She nodded in self satisfaction. 'And the spiders have to come to the edge of the Forest to forage for food if one of their own hasn't died recently.' Elgin blanched. Zaf looked bored, as though he had heard this already. Avila knew what she was saying was true but... still, she didn't have to talk about the spiders' apparent cannibalism. Elgin nodded minutely when asked if she was okay. Avila, Elgin, Zaf and Becky walked into the Forest, and found the rest of the students. The rest of the class passed with nothing else exciting happening. Becky , with Hagrid's permission, founded the Forest Watch. She asked Avila, Elgin and Zaf if they wanted to join. They all agreed, as did the other first year Ravenclaws. They went back to the hut on the edge of the Forest after gathering the eggs. Waiting for them was a giant black dog, which Hagrid petted and called Fang. The Ravenclaw girls and the two Slytherins went to pet the old dog, but the boys hung back, unwilling to go.
Soon it was dinner time and the Ravenclaws and Slytherins walked back up to the castle, unknowing that somethings were watching them.
