The skies ahead of them gave way to the warm hues of morning and Natasha had a hard time pulling her eyes from it. The only thing that tore her attention away from the beautiful sight ahead of her was a question - one she had hardly heard - but Wanda’s name had caught her attention.
“Hmm?” She sounded her question to Tony who had been the one to ask Wanda if she was okay - pointing out that she was paler than her usual Casper-like complexion. She’d been about to chastise him but one look at the little witch brought a concern out of her. She was pale - ashy even.
“He’s right.” She moved to take a seat beside her - worrying that she was nervous about this mission, despite her multiple assurances that she was more than ready for it before they’d loaded into the jet.
“I’m fine I just - “ The jet veered, taking a noticeable dive to avoid targeted air space, and Wanda closed her eyes at the movement, sucking in a breath to calm herself.
Nat’s eyes narrowed. “Wait, are you scared of flying?” She did her the service of keeping her voice low enough the boys wouldn’t hear - there would be jokes for sure, ones Wanda may not need until she was firmly planted on solid ground.
“It’s stupid I know.” Wanda’s face scrunched in embarrassment and Nat softened.
“You... “ She bit her lip, but couldn’t hold back the point she’d been making. “You realize you can fly, right?”
Wanda sent the red haired woman a glare. “It’s not the same. I have control over how I move when I fly,” she looked down at the hands in her lap, “here, I don’t have any control.”
Natasha gently gripped the girl’s chin, maneuvering it to look her in the eye while she spoke. “Hey, it’s okay. I get it. Out of everyone here, I think you know best how much I need control in some situations too.”
Wanda let out a scoff. “Some?”
Natasha nudged her shoulder playfully. “Okay, maybe more than some,” she said, sending a grin to the woman next to her.
She enjoyed being the person to get to playfully banter with the girl. Once she finally let down her walls and hadn’t looked back, she did not regret it one bit.
After a few minutes of joking around with each other and enjoying each other’s company, Wanda began to relax, getting so caught up in her conversation with Natasha that she forgot about her fear of flying altogether.
Wanda leaned her head on Natasha’s shoulder, shutting her eyes briefly and taking in the moment.
Natasha glanced down at her, placing a chaste kiss on her head, away from everyone’s view so as to prevent future mockery of her softness she couldn’t help displaying around the girl. She really did have her wrapped around her finger.
The pair sat in comfortable silence for a while before Steve announced their descent.
“Everyone familiar with the plan?” Steve asked as the team began to gather around the exit.
“Yes, sir!” Tony mocked Steve, giving him a joking salute.
Steve rolled his eyes and began to recount the roles a final time, ensuring everyone was confident with the plan.
“Tony, you and Barton scout the area while we wait here. Nat and I will move forward once given the signal, clearing the way for Wanda. Bruce, you’re on standby.”
Everyone nodded, already familiar with the plan. Tony and Clint left the quinjet to scout out the building.
“Surrounding area is clear,” Clint’s voice rang through the coms minutes later.
