"Let's see, I've packed this and that... Oh, can't forget that!" I tell myself as I put the last preparations on my bag for the trip to the mainland. I should've packed yesterday night, I feel like I'm going to forget important things at this rate! "(Y/N), I saw a change of clothes on the bed earlier, you packed it, right?" Pash asks, and I remember I didn't actually pack it. Just goes to show. "Right, I forgot." I smile at the little bird.
"Shouldn't you have done this yesterday?" Pash decides to tease. "I wanted to wake up earlier okay? Jeez Pash, you should have woken me up!" I poke Pash's sides before double checking the contents of my bag. "I jumped on top of you countless times! Not my fault you sleep so much!" Pash pouts as she jumps on my head. "H-hey! Stop that! It was because I couldn't sleep, I'm nervous... Hah..." I sigh frustrated.
"Anyway, you should finish packing. It's almost 7, Koujaku should be here any moment." Pash says, flying out of my room as I pick up my bag. "Right, right, it should be fine now." I walk after Pash and put my bag over my shoulder. Just when I arrive downstairs, I hear a familiar voice from outside. "Good morning!" I walk over to the door and am greeted by the person I expected.
"Yo, good morning!" Koujaku smiles. "Good morning." Beni says in the voice I'm so familiar with now too. "Morning Koujaku, Beni!" I smile at the two. Pash lands on my shoulder. "I suppose I should wish you a good morning, Beni. So, good morning." She scoffs. "What's your problem this early in the morning?" Beni asks sarcastically. "You two, come on." I poke the top of Pash's head. Naturally, Beni and Pash are used to eachother too, but nowadays Pash keeps giving Beni the cold shoulder. They argue a lot. Pash sighs and shuts up.
"A-anyway, are you ready to go?" Koujaku speaks up again and I nod. "As ready as I'll ever be." Koujaku nods and steps aside so I can walk outside. I lock the front door and look at Koujaku. He smiles at me and grabs my free hand. "Thanks again for going with me." I lock our fingers and nod. "Stop thanking me, okay? Let's go, or we'll be late." Koujaku nods in agreement as we start walking.

"Haaaahh, we've finally arrived!" I call out as I stretch my arms. "I don't suppose that was your first time on an airplane?" Koujaku asks, smoking a cigarette. Since you can't smoke on an airplane, Koujaku's been holding back for the trip. "Nope, I've taken one before. Looking out of the window it seemed like we came here in the blink of an eye, though." I smile at Beni and Pash sleeping next to eachother. It's weird how with all the arguing they do they still sleep next to eachother every time.
"It's three hours from Midorijima to here, though. Still, it's been a while since I've felt the mainland's breeze." Koujaku says with a small sigh. "I've noticed. It's a lot cooler than in Midorijima here." I say, closing my eyes while focussing on the breeze around us. "Since Midorijima's warm all year round it feels a little chilly here, doesn't it?" Koujaku asks with a smile. "A little. I thought it was a little hot in the plane so this feels nice." I admit and Koujaku puts out his cigarette.
"Your mother's grave is still a bit away from here, right?" I ask to which Koujaku nods in response. "Yeah. First we'll head to the city closest to the cemetary and head out from there. We'll probably arrive by nighttime." Koujaku explains. "Got it. Please take the lead, I haven't been here before." I say with a smile and pick up my bag again. "Right. Uh, right, right, we'll have to wake up Beni and Pash." Koujaku says as he picks up Beni and switches him on. I follow after him and wake up Pash. Her little pixel eyes open up soon enough.
"Good morning, Beni. Did you sleep well?" Koujaku asks once Beni's started up. "You bet! I was fast asleep!" Beni chirps as he lands on Koujaku's shoulder. "Good morning to you too, Pash. Did you sleep well?" I smile and Pash nods. "Mornin' (Y/N)! I slept fine! We on the mainland already?" She asks to which I nod in response.
"Hey Pash, this is your first time on the mainland, right?" Beni asks. "I don't see why that's any of your business, but yes." Pash scoffs, turning her head. "Oh no reason, just to say that you don't know a siiingle thing! But no sweat! I'll tell you whateeever you need to know!" Beni grins cockily and Koujaku looks down at him. Pash let's out a "Tch." And goes to ignoring Beni. "What's that, Beni? You're being a cheeky little brat, aren't you?" Koujaku asks and Beni stiffens up.
"Ahaha! I don't know what you're talking about Koujaku!" Beni laughs nervously and Koujaku lets out a sigh. "Fine, just sit on my shoulder." Beni scoffs, knowing his little game is over and stops talking too.
Koujaku clears his throat. "Well! Let's hurry up and get a move on. If we're too slow it'll be night by the time we arrive. We'll do our best to get to the inn and then take it easy." He explains to which I nod in response. "Alright! Lead way, peasant!" I say with a smile.
~
"Aaahh.. That was a nice bath." I sigh in contempt, walking outside with a towel around my neck. Once we arrived at the inn, Koujaku and I took our baths. I went after him, so he was sitting on the balcony with a drink. "I'm glad. Come sit next to me, (Y/N). I'm having some sake." Koujaku smiles, patting the chair next to him. I walk over and sit down. "Is it any good?" I ask.
"Want to try?" Koujaku asks, picking up the bottle. I nod and pick up a cup of my own. Koujaku pours me some sake and I take a sip. "Woah, this is good. And I usually don't like sake!" I smile. "It's good, right? The food we had before our baths was good too." Koujaku smiles, taking another sip. "Definitely. Ah, taking it easy like this is great!" I say, Koujaku nodding in response. "It really does feel like a vacation." He comments. "It does... Especially with that bath. Seriously, an entire open air bath for ourselves? Isn't that expensive?" I ask.
"Normally, yeah. But since my mother and I used to come to this inn all the time. The staff here remember me, so they're letting us stay for a special rate." Koujaku explains with a smile on his face. I sit back in my chair and sigh. "I see. So I'm enjoying your blessing, Koujaku. Anyway, big public baths are nice by themselves too." I say, thinking back to the couple of times I visited one. Koujaku laughs a little nervously. "Those baths... With my back I can't really go...*" He says and I shut up.
"Right.. Uh.. Where's Beni and Pash?" I ask, changing the subject. "After I got out of the bath they cuddled up together and went to sleep." Koujaku explains. "It's weird how they sleep like that when they seem to hate eachother... But we should probably head to bed soon as well." I say, emptying the sake cup. Koujaku nods and takes a big chug before setting the cup down. "You're right. Shall we go then? The futon's already laid out." He tells me, and I walk into the room again, plopping onto the futon.
"You're right.. Ah, it's so soft.." I let out a big sigh. "You're spread out on your back? What are you, a kid?" Koujaku asks, still standing next to the futon. "It's fine right? Just lay down next to me." As soon as I say that, Koujaku lays down on the futon and sighs himself. I smile at him. "Koujaku.. Are you nervous?" I ask. "So you noticed... Yeah, I am. Now that the time draws near, I keep having dreams of my mother. Like when she was really happy. I felt like I could escape, but I've given up. It's time to face reality." He explains.
"Koujaku... You don't have to do this alone. You and I are.. L-lovers, and... I want to support you any way I can." I explain, feeling really bad that he's been going through this alone. "You've done more than enough already. There's nowhere within me you can't touch. I could forgive you anything... Except infidelity." Koujaku says, getting serious with that last part. "I wouldn't do something like that." I promise him to which he nods. Koujaku wraps his arms around my waist and I shuffle closer to him. "You're really warm.." Koujaku says in a smug voice.
"Not really.. Aren't you cold?" I ask. "No.. Sleeping like this will surely give me sweet dreems." Koujaku admits and sighs in contempt. I sigh a bit and hold out my hand. "Then, give me your hand." I say to which Koujaku nods. "Mhm, let's hold hands." He soon holds my hand as I lock our fingers.
"Good night Koujaku."
"Good night."
*Japanese public baths often have restrictions for people with tattoos, so they're usually not let in. This is mostly to keep yakuza out.
