«it doesn't sound like a monster at all, you know.»
«you didn't even let me finish! its body was really large and it had four arms, its fingers were long and sharp as a knife, its legs were...i don't even know! it was moving so inhumanly, i can't even compare it to an animal.»
«maybe it likes you, so that could explain why it's always around your house.»
«after i shot it straight in the back i don't think it'll like me anymore.» the two laughed slightly at the statement, reaching the school gate.
«now that you mention him, reo's not here again, it's been more than a month now.»
«yeah, it's kinda odd at this point, should we visit him at home? maybe he's sick.» said the white haired boy, sitting on his desk and fidgeting with his phone like always.
«it's a good idea...and shiro, you should rest your eyes more often.» the girl said, concerned about all the time her friend spends playing videogames and such.

«i think no one's at home.» muttered y/n after ringing at the gate's intercom and being left with nothing but silence as an answer.
«if he's sick maybe he can't get up from the bed.»
«well, if that's the case at least the butler should've answered us, but the mikage mansion looks dead right now.»
«yo, the gate is not locked, maybe we can just go inside.» suggested seishiro, finally putting the phone in his pocket, then pushing the gate open and entering like nothing happened, with the girl following along.
the first thing that went noticed by the two was the the front door wide open, and a lot of messy black footprints on the ground.
inside the house everything was destroyed, glass pieces scattered on the floor, laying in a red crimson liquid that couldn't be nothing but blood.
a black substance was splattered all over the walls, slowly dripping down on everything in its way.
the same scenario painted the bedroom of their friend, except for the walls entirely destroyed and the bed moved away, revealing a deep hole leading somewhere under the mansion.

«shiro, did you hear the news of yesterday?» asked the girl, rushing down the stairs in the hole.
«i did, do you think the mikage family is dead?»
«i hope not, but what else could've happened? the mansion is destroyed and we're going inside a...what's this structure?» she asked again, looking around, even down there it was pretty much a mess.
«it looks like a laboratory, reo never told us about it.» replied her friend, looking at a bunch of papers scattered on a metal desk; it looked like everything previously in there was stolen, it was empty for a laboratory.
y/n stayed quiet for a while, focusing on a particular sheet with an humanoid figure sketched on it, everything was damnably familiar to her.
«he wasn't supposed to tell us, look here.» she said, showing the sketch to the boy, who didn't really understand until his friend said two words: «the monster.»
«no way, does it really look like this?»
«it looks worse than this, but that's not the problem! well, it is a problem but there's a bigger problem...look, doesn't this figure remind you of a certain person?»
«of course, it's reo, i'm not that stupid!»
the two looked at each other like a moment before entering the building, it took ten whole minutes to realize that their best friend turned inexplicably into a monster.
the air suddenly felt suffocating, the girl couldn't breath anymore and before she could even notice, tears started streaming down her face, burning her now rosy cheeks.
«come on now, don't cry, please...» whispered seishiro, immediately pulling the sobbing girl in a hug.
heavy footsteps could be heard from upstairs, and a lot of unrecognizable voices were getting nearer and nearer to the laboratory.
«let's hide somewhere before we get in trouble.»
