"Who are you?" the voice asked once again, a little louder.
The voice was different from what he imagined while looking at him. It seemed softer and less powerful. It wasn't the voice of a leader, but the one of a scholar.
He slowly turned his head when he heard rustling from behind. When he finally turned to see the human, the human was standing up looking at him. He didn't seem scared by the presence of a total stranger, but rather annoyed by the lack of response from the god and really confused by his strange appearance.
"Oh, hello," the god tried to seem unfazed by what was unfolding beneath his eyes.
The human smiled a little, it was subtle but lovely in its own way.
"Yeah, hello," he answered somewhat amused. "Are you going to tell me who you are or...?"
"Who I am...? Ah, yes, yes. Who I am... who I am. Well, you see, I-"
The human sighted. His subtle smile became a big smile whit white pearls showing.
"You seem to be a little confused. Are you alright?"
"Yes yes. I'm- I'm alright. Yes, I'm alright. I think I'm alright."
The god was panicking. How could he do such a big mistake? How could he be so stupid? In eons of existence he had never done such a stupid thing as interacting with a human. The goddess of life created humans as a last sign of love for her creations, hoping that they would care for her other creations and take care of them. Gods were forbidden from ever destroying in any way her most beloved creations.
"Hey! Hey! Calm down. Take a deep breath in and slowly let it out."
He did as he was told. It helped him calm down, but his mind was a messy thread of panicking thoughts and red painted regrets.
"Feeling any better?" the human asked the god and offered him his hand.
The god didn't even notice that he fell down. He was so immersed in his line of thought that his panic did whatever it wanted to him.
The god nodded and grabbed the human's hand, muttering an awkward "Thank you."
"But seriously now, who are you? Are you a traveller by any chance?"
That was it. That was his opportunity to not mess things up more than he already did.
"Yes, that's right. I'm a traveller. I travel a lot. That's what I do, yes."
People would expect a god to be more... godly. But not the god of dreams, former god of chaos. His past identity was reflected in his way of thinking and behaving, he was the most chaotic god out there and that meant something as the god of fire would randomly burn things and activate volcanoes out of boredom.
"...Riiiight," the human said in utter disbelief. If he wanted to ask more about the god, he wasn't showing it. "May I have your name?"
It was a trick question. Just a moment before the human addressed him informally, but then he suddenly switched to a more formal way of speaking? It had to be a trick question.
"You tell first," the god answered in a breath.
The human was clearly entertained by their little exchange of words.
"Alright. I'm George. And you are...?"
Oh shit, it wasn't a trick question. What was he supposed to answer? Was he supposed to tell him that he was the god of dreams? How would he answer such a hard question as he was someone who had everything but a name?
The human was patiently waiting for an answer. The god did a quick brainstorming but nothing came to his mind. Eventually he ended up picking a part of his identity as his name.
"I'm Dream," he answered unsure of what the human might think of him.
