The morning sun was shyly raisings, painting the canvas of the sky with golden colors and slowly warming up the forest and the mountains. Every morning was the same, the sun would raise high in the sky and the air would get so hot that it was slightly harder to breathe even for a god, which made it even more troublesome for mere humans.
What was it if not a summer morning?
Just thinking about the heat that was yet to come, made the god miss that cold secluded place in the middle of nowhere where the blood god liked to hibernate. But for no amount of sweet comfort provided by cold air and peaceful silence would Dream trade his days that were to be spent in the presence of his new friend.
Despite the god of fire's desperate pleadings to not interact with that human, he couldn't even imagine a scenario where he would abandon that human who seemed to carefully guard the answers to all the questions Dream ever had.
Dream lazily raised his hand and admired how the sun rays shone through his fingers. No matter how many times he experienced it, he was still drunk with love for the world surrounding him.
If a god felt something tenth times more intense than a human, then Dream felt everything tenth times more intense than a usual god. That was his curse of creation due to his real nature; that was the curse any god of chaos had to suffer for an eternity. He would never forget that day when the primordial god of creation created him, that feeling of becoming everything when seconds before he was nothing. He used to hate those days of the beginning, and as the world bloomed around him he wished to never feel like in the beginning ever again.
For a moment everything went silent. The soothing sound of the river was far away from him, the song of the forest animals was nothing but a distant memory, and the greenly scenery of the trees seemed to be only a hallucination as Dream immersed himself, involuntary, in memories that he swore he’d never think about again.
He was surrounded by rocks and fire. The heat was so overbearing that it was difficult breathing, but somehow manageable. His head hurt, his whole being hurt. Even his essence hurt. But where was he? What was he? The sudden realization hit him like a rock falling from the sky and breaking the ground it hit, he was something, someone, that moments before was nothing.
Laying beside him, in what looked like a state of peace, was something else, somebody else. They stood up in that place of ashes. The other being slowly opened their eyes in utter confusion and pain. When the two of them faced each other, something happened inside their beings, some sort of knot had been tied and what they knew was an eternal connection had formed.
They had all the knowledge they needed, and only by a swing of an arm they could rain hell on earth. They met the goddesses together, they hated the same gods and went through the same things, with little exceptions.
Only once did they not stay in the presence of each other, and that was when the blood god invited Dream, only Dream, to teach him how to use his new-found ability as a god who can show up in people’s dreams and control them. The god of fire stayed behind with the god of night, looking for some fun things to do as a pass time activity. When Dream returned, a thousand years later, the god of night was imprisoned in the deepest, darkest and loneliest caves in the middle of earth with no right of seeing another being ever again. And, his friend, the god of fire, was different, more cautious and calculate, avoiding places that reeked of human, as he would say whenever they saw a village.
A loud noise distracted Dream from his lane of memories and forcefully reconnected him with the real, present world. Standing at the entrance of the cave, puffing with big drops of sweat on his forehead, the god of fire was trying to catch his breath. It looked as if he run a really long distance in the arid heat of the morning.
