Change

There is always a point in life where growth and change is necessary. It is important for a bird to eventually leave its nest and explore a world unknown. A natural and environmental growth such as this is recognized as a mandatory life cycle that directly contributes to the flow of the world. This could be said for personal change as well. A subtle 3 extra centimeters or a new shirt can change many things.

Shizuyo Miyuki was never one for change. If the recipe for her favorite snack was altered, she would claim to hate it and never purchase it again. If there was something Miyuki acknowledged as good in her life, she wanted it to remain the same and never leave. Although sometimes, there were situations that were out of her control. When her great grandmother passed away three years ago, she tried her best to cope, but she couldn't run away from the pain.

That spring morning might not have been special for other people, but for Miyuki, it was monumental. She was going to be attending school in-person for the first time. Her parents had decided that it was necessary for her to " get the high school experience", though she thought it perfectly ok to experience high school at home. She knew that her parents were making the decision that they felt would benefit her, but she couldn't help but fear. It wasn't the human interaction that scared her, as she was one to make friends easily. It was the familiarity of her previous experiences that she didn't want to let go of. She was afraid to step away from what was comfortable and try something new.

Miyuki's eyes fluttered open as the sun shone brightly through her window. She looked up at the ceiling contemplating her entire life for what seemed like an hour, but was realistically only two minutes. No matter how long she laid there, the time on her clock didn't seem to move. It was as if the universe was forcing her to leave her previous joy behind and move forward. She lazily rolled out of the bed and trudged into the shower. The running water was somewhat comforting as her body began to regain its senses.

When she returned to her room, she sat at her desk and stared at her neatly pressed uniform. It consisted of a white button up, a striped blue tie, a baby blue sweater vest, and a gray skirt.

To make the transition a bit easier, she was given the choice between three potential schools: Nekoma High, Fukurodani Academy, and Itachiyama Academy. Since none particularly piqued Miyuki's interest, she decided on Fukurodani. There wasn't much of a reason behind her decision, but she was somewhat interested in their prestigious art program. She also found the baby blue sweaters charming.

...

As she buttoned the last button on her shirt, she gazed at her reflection in the mirror. Miyuki was considered tall for a girl, her height reaching around 178.8 centimeters.  She had her dad to thank for her toned legs and arms, and her mom for her eyes. They were a "mysterious gray" as her best friend Mika would describe them.
After she was dressed, she began to brush out her hair. In her eyes, it was the bane of her existence. She was normally confident and sure of herself, but her hair was one of her only insecurities. Her roots were black and the rest was a grayish-white.

"It's just so loud! It makes me look like an owl." She thought out loud as she put it into a low bun. Her favorite hairstyle since it was simple and covered up most of her "flaw". Maybe since she was in high school, she would finally be allowed to dye it black. "If I can do that, I'll finally look like a normal person." She always thought.

After watching a few scenes of her favorite anime and having a small breakfast, Miyuki started her walk to school. The proximity of the academy also persuaded her decision, it was only a few minutes from her house.

Taking a public bus to school was something that didn't appeal to Miyuki. Though she liked people, the thought of that much human interaction at such an early time was horrific. As an ambivert, she valued her personal space and alone time. And with her new life, walking to school proved to be one of the only opportunities for solitude.

When she got to the entrance of the academy, she was astonished by the charm and beauty that it held. It was large and there numerous cherry blossom trees surrounding it. While roses were the most beautiful flower to Miyuki, she couldn't help but marvel at the gorgeous flowers around her.

...

She had made a plan to arrive early, so it surprised her to find many other students in the classroom. Not knowing what to do, she made her way to an empty seat in the middle row. She pulled out her phone to keep herself occupied before the teacher came. Then, suddenly she felt a tap on her shoulder. She looked to her left and saw a boy sitting next to her. She hadn't noticed him when she came in. He sported a wide smile as he pointed at her hair.

"We have the same hair!" The boy exclaimed.

Miyuki was taken aback, then she thought for a moment. He was right! He had the same light gray hair with black streaks, though his was spiked up.

"Ahh, yeah, you're right." She said with an awkward chuckle. Not wanting to continue the conversation, she turned back to her phone. Though the guy had other plans.

"I've never seen someone else that has my hair before. I think you look really cool! Almost as cool as me!!" He continued, giving her a thumbs up.

Miyuki was stunned hearing his words. Even though she had heard it from her parents, it was different hearing it from someone her age.

"Oh, I'm Bokuto Koutaro by the way. What's your name?" He added.

"Thanks for the complement, I'm Shizuyo Miyuki. Nice to meet you." She smiled.

I drew this a few days ago. She was originally my My Hero Academia oc but I decided to alter her a little bit and draw her in the Haikyuu style for this fan fiction. I drew her in pencil because I don't like drawing in color.

Thanks for reading
