It has been three weeks since the dance, and three weeks of me sitting on the edge of a cliff somewhere in Canada. I haven't moved. I have just sat here with my knees pulled to my chest and my wings slumped to the ground. I have just stared at the same spot of trees the entire time. Morning glory flowers have begun to reach out to me, wrapping its delicate vines around my ankles, reaching up towards my knees.
The entire time I have just felt numb. The look Peter gave me is burned into my eyes, and my lip slightly quivers every now and then, but I still can't feel anything besides the never ending numbness.
I watch as the sun begins to lighten up the nature around me, signaling that the 23 day has started. Suddenly, I hear a branch snap behind me, and I completely freeze, becoming a statue and holding so still that it is in-humanly possible. I also put up a disguise to make me look like stone, with moss and vines growing all over it. The same thing I have done whenever the rare human has climbed the 10 miles up here.
In a few minutes, I hear footsteps right behind me, and I hear them take a deep breath, looking at the amazing views the cliff edge brings. They must notice me, because they come and stand right in front of me, with the few feet of space there is between me and the ledge.
They bend down, but I can't see their face. "Who built you?" The man says, in a deep, clear voice. He places his hand on top of my cheek, and I want to scream at him to run away from the danger that is me.
He takes a quick picture of me, but no pictures can be taken of me. No traces. I cause a huge gush of wind to appear out of no where, and it makes him drop his phone off of the edge of the cliff.
He curses, and says, "Why the heck would you do that Marinette?" I unfreeze and look up at him, seeing Clint. I let the disguise fall, and I stand up, backing far away from him.
He puts his hands up, and says, "I'm not gonna hurt you. It's ok." I keep on backing up, and I whisper, "that's not what I'm afraid of." I hit into something, and two hands wrap around my arms. I pull away as fast as I can, turning around to see Bucky.
My lower lip trembles as I remember that night, and I back up again, this time into a tree. They come closer, arms up, but for some weird reason I still go into defense mode. I begin to fly, and Clint just sighs. He pulls out his bow and begins to shoot at me, so I make a shield around me, the arrows deflecting off of it.
The shield is only in front of me, and out of no where Sam runs into me from behind, pushing me towards the ground fast. I scream out in pain as one of his wings pins into mine, causing me to bleed. I land hard on the ground, and his other wing jabs into mine.
I scream out in agony, and the sliver liquid rolls down my feathers, going onto the ground. He begins to reach for my hands, but I say, "Cataclysm," and control it so then it is only on my two hands. I say in a strangled voice, "You touch me you die, just like they did."
He sighs, and I watch as the fluid comes closer to my face, pooling around me. "Let me go." I plea, knowing that I will bleed out soon if he doesn't let me heal myself. "No." I hear the three of them say at the same time. I cough, and the blood comes out of my mouth.
I say in a stronger voice. "You are killing me. Let me go." I can't really see anything, considering that my head is to the side and my wing is in the way, but I can tell that they are looking at each other; silently conversing.
I cough again, and even more silver comes out, and I say, "ok. I promise I will come with you. I'll let you take me. Just please, don't kill me." The metal comes out of my wings, and they almost instantly heal. I take away my cataclysm, and take a second to breath.
Hand cuffs are suddenly around me, but they are the ones made out of the strongest magnets in the world, the kind that takes special tools to pull apart. I sigh, knowing that they won't stop me, and I pull them apart easily, moving my hands in front of my body instead of behind.
