School just ended. For the whole summer! "Can I walk home with you?" Theodore says, startling me. I jump as he puts his hand on my shoulder to get my attention. "Oh, sure Theo." I say, catching my breath as he sweeps his dirty-blond hair out of his face. "Ok then. Let's go." I shut my fully cleaned-out locker, pick up my ten pound book bag and follow the crowd outside. Theo is already out there, waiting on me by one of the benches. He was always good at pushing his way through crowds, but me? I couldn't be rude to a mouse! I stand beside him, waiting for the buses, cars, and kids to clear out, so we can walk home. "So, um..." Theo begins. " I think I might have a....um.... Crush on...um...someone I'm very close to..." WHAT?!?! A CRUSH???? My heart breaks, as I bear to continue listening to what he has to say.... I can tell that he needs me... So I'm here.... PERIOD. Despite my feelings for him....
