"You don't even have your own pencil?" He questions the girl with his eyebrows practically in the air.
"Are you going to give me one or not?" She mumbles, to which he places the one he's currently using in her small hand. "Thank you." She turns to the board and actually start... taking notes.
"Wow. I've never seen you taking notes before." He speaks like he's completely shocked while he fishes in his bag for another pencil.
"That's because I don't." She sarcastically smiles at him, hoping he won't point out how dumb she probably looks to everyone else.
"Well you do now Nina." He reaches over her desk to her schedule. "Let's see this schedule."
"Why?" She look him in the eyes and places her hand over his reflexively while he reaches for the schedule. She feels a blush come on her cheeks at their hands touching and shrinks away, he retracts with the schedule in hand.
"I have to know what you have if I'm going to help you." He explains studying it for a little bit before speaking again. "Wow... they put you in Honors English."
Honors English?!?
The teen scramble closer to him to see her schedule. "What??" She exclaims, quietly. "I don't take honors classes." She mumbles.
"Well I guess you do now." He curtly smiles, taking back the schedule to continue examining, then he pulls out his own. "Oh, okay I see what they did. They gave us the exact same schedule. That's why you're in the Honors classes."
"We have to change it!" I can barely pass a regular class! Her brain echoes.
"Why?"
"I can't do Honors classes right now." I have too much other things going on, plus the whole... barely passing thing. She thought.
"Again, why?" She just look at him blankly and he shrugs lightly shaking his head with furrowed eyebrows. "What?"
"I'm not smart enough for those classes." She mumbles, picking up her pencil and continuing to write what the teacher has on the board.
He sighs. "Nina, it's not about being smart or not. It's about practice. You can't get better at something if you don't work towards it." He speaks as he jots down notes, and he knew because he was speaking for experience.
"Okay. I'll try. But if it doesn't work out, I'm transferring back into all normal classes."
"It'll work out." How can he be so confident?
