The house was quiet like most mornings with the exception of a bird flying into the glass of her kitchen window. Jordan peeked through to see the poor little creature dazed and looking up, as though trying to piece together what had gone so utterly wrong in its near perfect flight.
Jordan steps out to her porch to see if the little bird needs to go to a veterinarian but before she kneels down the little creature stands up, spreads it's wings and takes flight. Jordan is relieved, partly because she hates to see animals suffer but partly because a trip to the veterinarian would be outside of her social bubble.
Social bubble, that term has become mainstream throughout this pandemic. Before the pandemic, Jordan had lead a quiet life in living alone and as a successful writer she was able to take advantage of working from the comfort of her own home. Yes, her publisher had her attend book signings and release parties. Promotion was a key to success but it was always temporary and soon enough she would be back to being at home and working on her next big hit. Though, she doesn't remember when the last event was. The lockdown has gone on for so long that she had lost track. What book was it for? She honestly can't remember because since going into hermit mode she has published a few more books and got to skip on the social events that normally surround a book launch because social gatherings have been a no go for about a year and a half now.
Jordan startles, her phone is playing the ringtone it had when she first got it. She answers, "Hi Mom."
"I'm good"
"No it's okay you don't need to get me groceries, I get them delivered."
"You don't need to make up an excuse. You can come over if you want."
"Mom, you don't need to worry about me. I love my solitude and love being home."
"I don't need a pet and don't buy me one. If you want to visit come."
"See you soon." Jordan returns her phone to the back pocket of her fitted jeans.
Her mom loves her so much and Jordan doesn't take it for granted. Hearing her Mom always brings a smile to her face though she loves her solitude, Jordan welcomes her Mom's company. Jordan's mom has stepped up her game in trying to get Jordan to become social where possible through this pandemic, suggesting online events and even travel since some of the restrictions have lifted. Jordan isn't sure.
Within the hour her Mom arrives. She hugs Jordan, "It's so good to see you." Wrapping her arms around Jordan and slipping a paper into her hand as she releases her.
Jordan asks, "What's this?" Her mom winks and Jordan reads the Sunwing itinerary. Jordan replies, "Your taking a flight down south?"
Her mom smiles, "Come with me?"
Jordan smiles, a tropical vacation is always epic!
