A town with Thousands of people, everywhere you look someone is there. How can someone be so lonely in a place so full of others? Crissy a young adult, thought this to herself often. She has her mom, dad, and her one friend savannah. Other than that all the other faces are blurs to her. She never felt like she fit in anywhere, no matter how hard she tried. Even with her family she was an outcast, only talking to her parents, not really knowing the rest. Her job is so full of potential friends and yet she barely knows anyone's names. Concerning her as she talks to them all, fixing their mistakes. She thinks to herself often that maybe that's why they don't talk to her. She's the one calling everyone out on their mess ups on the paperwork. She's the one making them redo their hard work. Aside from her feeling lonely she has her books and cat that make her smile through the hard days. Never able to put down a good book or tell her cat no. She has a very important weekly breakfast she needs to attend to this morning before work. This meeting is her favorite one she has, the only one she likes.
"I know I'm late so sorry, mom." Crissy sits down opposite her mom. Her mom has long blonde hair sprinkled with gray throughout it. "Did you order yet?" with a huff of breath from running to the seat.
Giggling, her mom replies. "No, not yet darling." As she giggles small wrinkles form on her forehead. "I did however get you coffee." She glances down to the cup of steaming coffee in front of her daughter.
"I love you so much mom." Crissy hardly got the words out before bringing the mug to her lips.
As time went on and the two talked and giggled, the clock hit the time for them to end their meeting.
"Ok bye mom, I'll see you next week, tell dad hi for me. I love you." She rushed the words out while giving her a kiss on the forehead.
"Bye Crissy have a good day, don't forget to smile." Unsure if Crissy had heard her as she was already halfway out the door.
Crissy hated walking into the office at her job, everyone staring at the door seeing who it was, if they cared who it was. She takes a quick pit stop in the bathroom just before the entrance to her hell. Stopping to look in the mirror, she checks her pearly white teeth for any hidden food. She smooths down her short black hair, opposite of her mothers. Noticing underneath her golden brown eyes, she has eye bags and she pushes them against her face. A last minute attempt to hide them. Giving up she decides to go to her desk and start working. Walking into the office Dan her boss is at the door greeting everyone. People like Dan don't stand at the door to be friendly with everyone, just the girls. As Crissy walks past him she hears him say "Looking good today, my friend." She ignores this and continues her walk to her desk, passing everyone else's way in the back. Upon arriving at her desk she sees a huge pile of paperwork sitting on it with a sticky note reading" I hope you enjoyed your time off, hope you catch up in time for lunch."
"Asshole." She mutters to herself.
As her alarm for lunch goes off she looks around and sees everyone getting up and grabbing their packed lunches to eat with each other in the breakroom. She reaches for her bag and grabs her lunch, as she sits it on her desk and opens it. Dan walks up to her desk and starts to talk. "Let me take you out to lunch today."
"Oh, I'm good thank you though. I'm really excited to eat what I brought." She maintains a smile.
Half sitting on her desk, Dan says "I insist, I'll pay. I need to speak to you about some things." He winks.
Crissy cocks her head and grins, saying "I don't really have a choice, now do i?" Giggling covering up, it wasn't a joke.
Jumping up from the desk Dan proclaims "It is settled then, you, me, and lunch. Right now. I'll meet you at the restaurant. Here's the address." He hands her a business card with the name and address of the restaurant.
At the door, Dan is waiting, with the host, for Crissy. "There you are, if I didn't know any better I'd think you stood me up. "
"Oh Dan, why would I do that? You know where I work. Crissy again feigns a giggle. Something she does too often with people. Ordering water for her drink when asked by the hostess.
"This place is where I go to celebrate, as I think it's the only place worth being at for celebrating." He half grins as they are shown to their seats.
"What are you celebrating today?" With a faint smile and a head tilt to complete the "I care" look she has worked on.
"A raise." With a grin bigger than his face could hold.
A fake smile. "You got a raise? That's awesome." Why am I here for that? She thinks to herself. Wanting this day to be over with.
"Oh no dear it's not me who got the raise" He starts to trace Crissy's hand, while nudging her foot under the table, with his own.
Hesitantly she asks with a bit of regret. "Oh. Who then?" Pulling away her hand slightly enough to not cause a scene as the waitress walks up.
"Are you guys ready to order?"
"Oh yes, ma'am I'll take an 8oz steak medium rare, with broccoli and a baked potato. As usual."
"And for you, ma'am?"
"Actually I'll have the same thing as him" she loves steamed broccoli. Especially covered in butter, with pepper.
"Well Crissy I saw your yearly report on my desk yesterday and as I was going through it I realized how amazing you have been. You have no complaints from any staff or clients. All the files you have given back are always 100 percent. I've never had a worker that good before. I also don't understand how your file got on my desk, the fate of the gods I suppose." Bewildered by what she was just told, her mouth was agape.
"Wow Dan, I really appreciate that, I just do what I'm supposed to and keep to myself." she chuckles slightly to herself, a real one.
"I appreciate the affirmation that I'm doing good." she smiled at him sincerely this time.
"Good, I'm glad to hear it. Your raise is going to be $2 more an hour. Which is a good raise, if I like you enough I can make it higher" he winks causing an uncomfortable Crissy to reply "I'm good with $2."
Upon pulling up to her house Crissy sees that there are flowers, lilacs, and purple dream lilies to be precise, at her front door. Weird I haven't told anyone yet she thinks to herself getting out of her car and walking toward the vase. Muttering to herself she says "They are beautiful, I wonder if Dan told someone." Looking to see if there is a card with them. "Congrats on the big raise, you deserve it." not signed. "How unusual, maybe it was Dan. They are pretty and look costly".
Unlocking her front door she notices that her white cat is waiting for her like usual. He's more of a dog than a cat. He is the love of her life, well that's what she tells everyone. Every time she brings someone she is interested in to her place, they always leave. They never say anything, they just run out. Crissy will walk to another room and it's like they just teleport. When she has friends over they don't react that way. "Maybe it's me," she tells people. Well anyway, Lucifer, her cat, is her best friend. Although he is a weird creature. He stares at nothing all the time and sometimes screams.
