When I was a small child, I was nobody. I wasn't powerful, I wasn't pretty, and I was nowhere near smart. A small human living in a world full of strong and intimidating gods. My mother and I lived in a small hut, away from the village, mostly in the forest. My mother was the hunter and gatherer for us until I was old enough to help out. The rest of the tribe didn't like my mother but pitied me due to my father's death. They think my mom killed him and covered it up. He was the chief, I was supposed to take over but instead, they gave it to his brother. I was all alone once my mother left and never came back. I was only eight years old, fending for myself. One day during the night, I saw a very bright light and another child, around my age. There she was, looking around, with her big brown eyes in wonder. Silently watching this girl, taking in all the sounds and sights she sees, as if she's never seen a forest before. Following her around the small area as she wonders, I accidentally stepped on a twig, this caught her attention. I tried to run and hide more, but it was too late, she saw me. I went to peek out through the bushes, but there she was, looking me in the eyes.
"Hello, my name's Crissy, what's yours?" She smiled with true happiness and curiosity. There was something about this girl that made me want to get to know her.
Hesitantly I replied with my name and a question of my own. "Drussela, My name's Drussela. Where did you come from? I've never seen you before."
The young girl's smile grew wide, wider than before. "I'm a God! My parents are the king and queen of gods! I am here to learn about humans and the mortal realm."
Drussela's mouth dropped open, along with her eyes. "Stop lying! People go to hell for lying." A short pause in her mind. "Now go away and leave me alone, please."
Crissy, shocked, takes a step back. No one has ever told her to go away before. A tear rolled down her cheek, leaving a trail. "Ok...If that's what you want." She turns around and starts to walk away as she hears Drussela yell. "It is".
I don't need anyone who is just going to lie like the rest of the tribe, I can do this on my own. Dru walked back into her hut and went back to bed. Unable to sleep, tossing and turning thinking about the lonely, innocent girl alone in the forest. She lays there all night convincing herself to leave her be, that if she could live on her own so could the strange girl. Eventually, the morning sun started to rise and a sleepless Drussela decided it was time to get up. Standing up and stretching her long arms, her stomach growls. Walking over to the storage of the hut she remembers she is out of food. "I guess I'll go to the village today."
Walking out of the hut, wearing what little cloth she had left, she hesitantly looks around for the god-claiming child. Nowhere to be seen, Drussela starts to walk out away from the forest, keeping an eye out for the child. Once in the village, all the people around that see her stare and whisper to each other. Some of the younger kids yell at her and throw pebbles at her. She keeps walking, as she is used to this. To the end of the huts, she walks into the biggest one, and at a straw-made table, there is a big burly man. Wearing nothing but his trousers.
With a wide smile and deep voice he speaks, "Ah my dear sweet niece has come to visit. And what does she need?"
Quietly and more like a whisper "Uncle I need food. I am out and my tools broke." Twiddling her fingers and looking at the ground, she hears a boisterous laugh come from the beast at the table.
Still laughing he starts to speak. "Child all you ever do is ask and take, you never contribute to the village. If I give you food and tools what will you do for me? Oh, that's right you have nothing to offer, just like your mother!" No longer laughing but screaming menacingly now. "You look like your father but act like your mother. You're good for nothing child, cast out to the forest. Everyone here wishes you dead and your father alive. I will give you nothing." With a long pause and a change in his tone he spoke. "Actually I have a way for you to be useful. Marry my son, he is 12 and needs a bride to be his future ruler. If you can behave you will make beautiful heirs. Of course, when you are older this will happen, until then I will help you with whatever you ask of me." Laughing again, knowing he has power over this child.
With a cold tone to match her hard eyes drussela looks at the man in his cold dead eyes. A fire igniting in her heart she feels it building up and throughout her whole body. "Burn in hell."
"WHAT!" He roars with hatred and anger. Lounging at the girl. She lifts her arm and touches his skin as he ignites and is engulfed in flames. Flailing around screaming in agony spreading the bright orange flames. Dru turns and walks out as the hut starts to wildly burn. People start flocking to the hut trying to save the deranged chief, as others start to run from her. The fire spread to other huts. Looking her cousin in the eye she hisses out. "Now you have a true reason to hate me." With those venom-filled words, she leaves. Starting to run for the village as she realizes what has happened she runs towards her hut to grab her few things. In Front of it is Crissy, sitting there, alone and crying. Hearing the screams from everyone nearing her she grabs onto Crissy's arm and drags her along as she runs into the animal-filled forest.
Trying hard to follow the young red-haired girl. "Wait where are we going?" Tripping over her feet as she desperately tries not to slow them down.
"Wherever we want to go." she turns and smiles.
