10 years later
“James Buchanan Barnes!” Evelyn screamed, stomping her foot.
“Evelyn Marie Barnes!” He bellowed back.
“It’s not funny, Barnes! I asked you for one thing,” She stood with her arms crossed over her chest.
“But sweetheart,” He placed his hands on her cheeks and kissed all over her face, “The boys and I were just trying to help.”
“You certainly did not do that,” She pouted her lip out.
“No, no, don’t cry,” Bucky ran hands down her arms, “I’m so sorry baby,”
“I just wanted her to have a nice room and you,” Evelyn’s lip quivered.
“Sweetheart,” Bucky hugged her as tightly as he could, “I promise it will be fixed, the boys they just got a little excited.”
Evelyn stood in a room with paint splashed everywhere, including the floor and the ceiling. It was the perfect bright purple color she had chosen.
“Mommy!” yelled out two identical voices. “Do you like our paint job for the baby’s room?”
Evelyn looked at Bucky for help as all the men in her family hugged her tightly.
Years had passed since their first mission together. After Bucky’s solo mission, the pair got married. They completed many missions with the Avengers until a time when Evelyn was once again shot.
Bucky begged her to hang up her agent status and it wasn’t until she found out she was pregnant that she finally called it quits.
The pair had moved out of the compound and into a cute house in the city. There they had their twin boys, James and Jonathan, known as Jamie and Johnny.
Bucky stayed on with the Avengers and still occasionally went on missions. He was more help from the compound, relaying information and strategy than he was in an actual fight though.
“I think baby Emery will love this room,” Evelyn tried to get out without crying.
The pair were having what Evelyn called their last child. After two rowdy boys she had wanted to try for one more and they found out recently they would be having a girl.
Bucky took the twins to get cleaned up and Evelyn moved to the kitchen to start dinner. She heard a car pull up and called out to Bucky.
“Babe! Are you expecting anyone?” Evelyn yelled to her husband.
Bucky didn’t answer and instead moved quickly to the door, his gun ready. Years of being out of the game didn’t make him any less paranoid. His shoulders relaxed slightly and Evelyn let out a breath.
“It’s just Nat and Steve,” Bucky put his gun away and opened the door to their friends.
Steve and Nat were complicated. Apparently Nat had let Steve know her feelings for him plenty of times. Steve, though, never took the hints.
Eventually it took their own undercover mission to bring them together. They were about to be caught and Nat pulled Steve in for a kiss. Said kiss must have rocked Steve Rogers’ world because after that he was professing his love for Nat.
On one hand Nat was enthusiastic over it but then when Steve began to talk about their future and wanted to make plans similar to Bucky and Evelyn’s, Nat got cold feet and fled for a while.
Bucky helped Steve track Nat down but she wasn’t budging. She told them both that that wasn’t the life she wanted or could provide so there was no point in things progressing.
That was the last Evelyn had heard so something must have happened for them both to be at the Barnes home.
“Hey guys,” Steve waved.
“Shaw,” Nat gave her a nod and a wink and they both waited for Bucky’s outburst.
“For the last time, it’s Barnes,” He huffed.
“Are you guys staying for dinner?” Evelyn offered.
“Um, yeah,” Steve looked at Nat, “We need to talk after the boys go to bed.”
Bucky was tense the rest of the night. Evelyn and Nat cleaned up from dinner. The boys were so happy to see Uncle Steve and wouldn’t go to bed unless he read them a story. Bucky tried to get whatever the news was from Nat but she wouldn’t budge.
Bucky, Evelyn and Nat waited until Steve came from upstairs. He tried to engage in small talk with the couple.
“When did they get so big?” Steve laughed, “And soon we’ll have another Barnes running around.”
“Cut it out Steve,” Bucky glared at his friend.
“What’s going on?” Evelyn asked.
“I don’t know how to tell you this,” Steve sat across from his friends with a sad expression.
“Just tell them, we need their help,” Nat told Steve.
“Evie isn’t helping, she’s out, she’s done,” Bucky glared, “She’s five months pregnant. There is nothing she can do to help in any case.”
“Sharon’s been broken out of the Raft.” Steve said flatly, “We don’t know how or by who and we have no idea where she’s gone.”
A/N: And that is the story of Evie and Bucky. This is all for now but there may be more at a later date. I hope you all enjoyed my little test run. I have some more things in the works but no promises of when or what or how.
