Chapter 7

Luke’s POV

“Wide awake, my mistake, so predictable
You were fake, I was great, nothing personal
I'm walking, who's laughing now?
I'm wasted, wasting time
You talk for hours but you're wasting lines
A pretty face but the chase ain't worth the prize

I'm gonna break your little heart
Watch you take the fall
Laughing all the way to the hospital
'Cause there's nothing surgery can do
When I break your little heart in two
I'm gonna break your little heart in two

A party queen, cause a scene, so ridiculous
Little dress, maybe less, so conspicuous
You're falling, who's crashing now?”
I belted out lyrics from All Time Low’s ‘Break your little heart’.

I was, once again, forced to run on this death machine, also known as treadmill. Coach had left me here for ‘work’. I bet he went for lunch. That bastard.

“I'm wasted, wasting time
I'm moving on but you're left behind
A pretty face but the chase ain't worth the prize

I'm gonna break your little heart
Watch you take the fall
Laughing all the way to the hospital
'Cause there's nothing surgery can do

I'm gonna break your little heart
Show you to the door
Sew yourself shut and now you're begging for more
'Cause there's nothing surgery can do
When I break your little heart in two.”

I continued belting out lyrics from the song and when it was done, I turned off the death machine and pulled out my earphones, only to hear clapping. I turned my head so fast I had a whiplash to the direction of the clapping and my face turned completely red when I saw Coach.

Uh oh. I have never actually sang in front of anyone besides my mother. Heck, never even dared to sing in front of my brothers so having Coach hearing me belt out lyrics like that was no doubt very embarrassing.

“U-um, hi Coach.”

“Hi Luke, so what song was that?” he asked casually.

“It’s All Time Low’s Break you little heart.”

“All Time Low? Is that a band?”

“Yup, a pop punk band.”

“You’re into bands like that?”

“All bands I guess. “

“Oh really? What’s your favourite?”

“Well, my first band that I liked was Green Day. But then there was also bands like Blink 182, Fall Out Boys, Foo Fighters, New Found Glory, Sum 41, Arctic Monkeys, Imagine Dragons, Coldplay, Mayday Parade, My Chemical Romance, Nirvana, Sleeping with Sirens, The 1975, The Fray, Pierce the Veil and many others. My favourite… I can’t pick but I guess if I had to say, it would be Green Day because that was the band that started my whole obsession with music I guess. I really love their energy and song writing.”

“Oh wow, I never would have took you for a music person.”

“I guess it all started when my brothers, Ben and Jack started me on playing the guitar. There was an electric guitar lying around that I would pick up and play. The first song they thought me was Deep Purple’s ‘Smoke on the water’ when I was ten. I used to play it over and over again until I learned the lyrics to Green Day’s Holiday and for some reason I used to sit in my room and sing it over and over until my dad would come in and shout at me to stop. Then, I started listening to noisy guitar bands like Foo Fighters and Good Charlotte. But I guess All Time Low grown on me the most after that. They mixed pop and punk so perfectly and they looked like they were having a great time, all the time. Alex Gaskarth, their lead singer, had such a powerful voice, which worked so well with some serious infectious guitar hooks. I started wanting to come up with my own music.”
