(Attai POV)
4:30 amWe moved out the way in the nick of time from the car before diving back into the woods with Samaya in my arms, passed out.
Transformed into our true body, we flew through the trees on our way to the Falls. The closer we got, the louder the sound of the waterfall became. Finally, we stopped 100ft away. Relieved that this was going to be over soon. I looked at the knocked-out girl in my arms. She looked as though she was sleeping, going through a peaceful dream. She looked so much like her. My heart was starting to beat fast, but I immediately changed my mind.
No, that part of me will never show its self, I'll do what no leader in my world has ever been able to do. Conquer the curse that was bestowed upon us from these beings. It's what caused my home so much suffering in the first place. Our physical and mental state was always in their hands.
And women like her always chose to damn us in the end.
"Samaya Hearthas," I say her full name for the first time since I heard of her. She was key to everything. No. Her heart was the key to everything. "Leon, Verena, get everything ready." They nod, taking items out of a black duffel bag as I walk closer to the water with Samaya still in my arms. I looked over, contemplating where or not to do this here or home now.
No, it needs to be done here.
We can't risk this being found out and throw the people into a longer state of depression over the death and sacrifice over this again.
I must destroy The Connection.
"It's ready," Verena said. I turn back, placing her body inside a circle of a white pounder. Leon stood not far, holding the dagger firmly in his hands, his face was hard to read, but I could tell. When I walked over and tried to take it away from him, his grip tightened, not letting go of the dagger.
I never let it go either.
"Don't make this harder than it already is, brother." I plead. We're still fighting for who can keep the dagger. "So you would betray not only me, your king, your family," I nod towards Verena. "But also our kind, our home, the people who are counting on us to bring back that spark of life that was RIPPED OUT OF US!?" My voice echoed through the space, almost drowned out from the water. He still kept his ground, and it made me more upset.
The sky started to get more bright, showing that the sun would be here any minute. We were running out of time. I take a deep breath. Thinking about what needs to be done, whether he feels betrayed or not.
"We both know I can't beat you, Attai," Leon smirked slightly. "But that won't stop me from doing what I feel a right. Going through this right now, the things I took part of makes me ashamed! Tradition-"
"Bullshît!" I cut him off. Fuck tradition! Tradition is what this kingdom goes through a cycle of life that has been stolen from us over some conflict that happened trillions of years ago! It's time for a new era!
I think of everything to get him to back down. I don't want to use my powers on my brother, not again. Why would you care so much about this human girl? During the transition, he was supposed to have extinguished all emotions for them.
Unless...
"You didn't fully transition, did you?" He froze. I stood broadly; even though he was taller, he seemed to have shrunk a few inches. "You do know all transitions are full and final. Any speck left is an act of treason and a terrible crime."
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Then. Let. Go." I say this low and slow. And in a final act, he made his decision, a sagacious decision. He lets go.
