He seemed so familiar to her. His hands cupped her cheeks, made her feel warm and protected. No harm could ever befall her. She smiled, he made her happy.
Mara woke up from her dream, like every night this week. Always the same dream, she thought. She couldn't remember the face of the man she saw. Night after night, whenever she woke up, she forgot. It drove her insane, not knowing who she had dreamed about.
Little did she know, that a certain someone had the same dream. Whenever he closed his eyes, he saw her. Her, the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen. It was like a calling, but every time he woke up he forgot what she looked like. He'd just left with the Guardians. Away from earth, his new home, he traveled through the galaxy in hopes to find something. Thor didn't know what exactly he was searching for, it was merely a feeling. Little did he know, he'd find it on earth.

As soon as Mara opened her eyes, she sighed. She forgot, again. Why on earth did couldn't she remember his face? Already in a bad mood, she got ready for her day. On today's to-do list: space hunting. It was her dream to get her own shop. Café, to be exact. With books, too. She'd always dreamt of it, people coming in and sitting down, getting coffee while reading the newest book.
It was ten-thirty and her first appointment was at eleven. She put on a light summer dress since it was burning hot in New York and slipped into her worn-down converse. Her hair was held back in a low bun by a flowy, silk piece of fabric, paired with her favorite earrings and necklace. Grabbing her bag from the kitchen counter, she left her apartment.
One turn to the right, two blocks down, and there it was. A cute little space, at first sight almost not noticeable but with a second glance just beautiful. She rushed towards it, not caring how she bumped into people. When at the store, she walked up to the broker. "Hello! I'm here for the tour!" The broker gave her a skeptical look, scanned her up and down, before nodding slowly. "Sure, come in." They walked into the shop. It was almost everything like Mara had imagined. Redbrick walls, light flooring, a huge window front. It had a small storage room in the back and a toilet. "Price range?" The broker once again gave her a skeptical look, up and down before looking into her book. "One hundred and thirty-four thousand", she then said, with a spiteful grin.
134k? That's it? Mara just nodded and took a scan of the space again. "I have other appointments today, Miss. Here's my card." Mara took the card out of her hands and put it in her bag. "I'll call. Thank you, for the tour." The female broker just nodded and started to walk away. Mara was left alone in the shop. This was perfect, should she just take it? The price was reasonable too since this was almost at Townsquare. She had three more appointments though, and Mara was one for checking every option there was.
So, she walked to the next location. A cute space, next to a bookstore though. That would be unfortunate, she thought. She'd still decided to take a look at this place, couldn't hurt. The estate agent of this space was much less prejudicing. He showed Mara the place. Black chalk walls, white flooring, and again, the huge front window. Mara was hesitant to take this one, she almost liked it better than the first one. But since there was a bookstore next to it, she declined the offer and moved, heavy-hearted, on to the next one.
Now, this one was beyond garbage. Scrappy floors, holes in the wall and there was no toilet. A bust, she thought. The broker tried to sell it as much as he could, but Mara wasn't feeling it. Her mind always slipped back to the first one. By the time, the tour was over she had decided to take the first one. Out of the hundreds of spaces she had seen, this one was by far the best. Outside of the space, she took the card out of her bag and reached for her phone. People were rushing past her, running and yelling at each other or into their phones. Mara dialed the number.
"Senster Real Estate. This is Mrs. Hollei, how may I help you?" Mara gulped. She had forgotten, that this was the mean woman. "Uh, hello. This is the 11 o'clock appointment, from this morning? Is the space still available?" Silence. Then she heard the woman clearing her throat. "No, I just sold it."
To say, Mara was disappointed was an understatement. "Oh, okay. Well, thanks anyway." She gulped. "Have a great day." Someone pushed her aside, but she didn't care. "Thanks." Then, she hung up. Mara put her phone back in her purse. She still stood in the middle of the sidewalk, people were complaining and cursing at her, but she didn't care. The space was perfect. No wonder, someone bought it. She should have bought it right away. Now she has to continue the endless hunting for a space that fit her expectations.
Suddenly, she remembered the third appointment. One look at her watch told her, she could still make it. And so, she ran. Through the streets, taking every shortcut she knew and running red lights in no regard for other people. She took a left turn and continued to run towards the small shop at the end of the street when she bumped into someone. She fell from the force, it was like she had run against a wall. When looking up, she froze. Before Mara stood a tall man, blonde hair, one eye blue, the other one brown. He had an apologetic look in his eyes and held a hand out for her.
"My apologies, Mylady."
Mara opened her mouth in shock, but no words came out. The man crouched down to her and put one of his hands on her shoulder. "Are you okay?" Mara couldn't help but stare. Something about this man felt weirdly familiar as if she'd known him all her life. She cleared her throat. "Uh, yeah. Sorry." She stood up and tapped the dirt off her dress. "My apologies. I didn't see you", the man spoke again. Mara smiled and shook her head. "It's fine. I ran into you after all." She picked up her bag, which fell with the crash.
"I gotta go, tho", Mara said in a rush, remembering her appointment. "Sorry, again", she yelled over her shoulder, already running again. The man just looked after her, wondering what about her felt so familiar.
