Muffet's Day

Muffet smiled happily as she made yet another batch of cookies. She loved working in her bakery, even if it was a bit hard to keep up with sometimes. Ever since a human named Frisk became the ambassador for the monster race, she and many of her friends were permitted to live freely alongside mankind without fear of being eradicated.

Of course, it took some getting used to. There was still some prejudice here and there, but it wasn't nearly as bad as when monsters were first banished to the Underground. Besides, business was great. She was especially thankful that she had Edgar to help her.

Muffet never recalled a time when she'd seen a male spider before. Most of her little companions were ladies, and her pet wasn't technically a spider. It was a giant mutant cupcake with legs.

One thing she did notice was how shy and nervous he was around her. Like he was afraid he'd do something to upset her. Muffet found it a little cute. She blushed at the thought.

The bell to the front door chimed, and who should come in but Frisk? Muffet waved at the human. "Hello, Frisk! Nice of you to stop by!"

Frisk said nothing, as they always did, and looked around at the many pastries lined up on the counters. "See anything you like?" Muffet asked. Frisk nodded and pointed at some cupcakes on a nearby stand. They had black frosting, with white frosting in the shape of webs. Each cupcake had a fake spider in the middle.

"Excellent choice, dearie! That'll be a total of $85!" Muffet giggled. Frisk sighed and fished around in their pockets. Frisk gave her what she needed and took the cupcakes in a brown paper bag. "Huehuehue~ Enjoy them!"

As Frisk sat down at a table, Muffet turned to check on the cookies. Just a bit longer and they'll be finished. They already smelled pretty good. She went to the back room to feed her pet, Custard. He was so big she had to hide him from the customers. While Muffet didn't believe him to be vicious (because that was highly exaggerated), he still had a tendency to chase people when hungry.

Custard purred and nuzzled Muffet before eating his food. Muffet kissed his giant head and went back to the main dining area. Frisk licked the frosting from their fingers and wiped their mouth with a napkin. "I'm glad you like the cupcakes, Frisk..." Muffet said. "A new friend of mine helped me make them." She came over and sat down across the table from Frisk.

"He's so nice. Maybe I can introduce you two sometime?" Frisk nodded in response, then gave Muffet a hug. "Oh, dearie~" she chuckled, hugging them back. "Glad to see you've lost your fear of spiders. Well, I better get back to work. See you later, Frisk!"

The human left the shop. Muffet went back over to the oven and carefully removed the cookie tray from the rack. She sat them on the counter to cool, then sighed. Her little spider companions crawled over to her, staring up at her in concern.

"Oh, nothing's wrong girls. I just can't stop thinking about Edgar," Muffet said. "He makes me feel...what's the word? It's not just happy. Like, nothing bad will happen if he's around."

The smaller spiders tittered in laughter. Muffet blushed even more. "Is this what it's like to be in love?"

She couldn't believe it. She had only met Edgar a month ago and she already felt some strong connection with him. Problem was...she wasn't 100% sure if he felt the same.

The day went by as uneventful as ever. She had a few customers that came and went, but it all went well. As Muffet crawled into bed that night, she lay awake thinking of Edgar, and looking forward to seeing him again.

"Ahuehuehue~" she quietly laughed, closing her eyes. "I suppose this is love."
