chapter 3: so we meet again

"OK! Who's ready to train!" Tanjiro exclaims.

"Ughhh we've been training for weeks. And the demon still hasn't been caught" You complain.

It's been two weeks since you woke up in the wisteria house. You and Zenitsu have really hit it off, but lately Tanjiro has been acting weird everytime you're together. You brush it off though. Zenitsu is enough boy for you. In these past two weeks you three have become much closer friends. Yet they've started to realize that you can't remember anything before waking up here. They've constantly been asking you questions but your mind always draws a blank.

"No buts! Training is essential. Now let's all-"

"CAW CAW"

Tanjiro is cut off by a crow that managed to fly inside.

"CAW! GO TO SHINRIN FOREST NOW. CAW!"

"What the- did that crow just talk?!?!" You shout.

"Yeah. He tells us we're the demons are" Tanjiro says.

You think to yourself, "this can't possibly get weirder"

"Let's go! Shinrin forest isn't too far away. We'll make it there before sundown!" Zenitsu exclaims.

He grabs you by the hand and drags you outside and along the path to Shinrin forest. You look back and see Tanjiro making that face again. The lonely one He always makes when you and Zenitsu hang out. You know somethings wrong. But you know that Tanjiro is too nice to say anything.

In no time your at the edge of Shinrin forest. It's huge. Breathtaking. But yet strangely horrifying. The dark depths of the forest hold many secrets. Over at the far corner of the forest, something catches your eye. A small field of bright purple plants that hang from branches. They're almost glowing.

"Hey, Tanjiro, what are those things." You ask pointing to the purple plants.

"Oh those are wisteria plants!" He answers.

"Isn't that what the wisteria house is named after?" You ask

"Yes! The wisteria plant is basically like demon repellant." Zenitsu adds

"Oh. That makes sense" you reply.

You all stare at the Neverending forest. Until you hear a large rustle through the trees. A flock of birds fly away in fear.

"What was that?" You ask

Then you here a blood curdling scream. It echos through the hole woods. A chill goes down your spine.

"Come on let's go" Tanjiro announces.

He takes the lead and runs off. You can see Zenitsu quaking in fear. Then you realize you've never seen him in battle before. He always seemed like this athletic man, but maybe he's not as brave as you thought.

"You know... maybe I should just stay here. I'm not good in battle. And I could stay here and watch!" Zenitsu announces.

You walk over to him. Gently squeeze his shoulders. And you can see him slowly start to relax.

"Hey. You. Got. This." You say to him.

Then you lean in, and he leans in too. Your lips touch. The warm embrace makes you fall deeper into his arms. "This is love" you think. "I don't remember much but I can remember that this is love"

When you finally release Zenitsu is no longer trembling with fear. He smiles. Grabs your hand and together you run into the forest after Tanjiro.

In the forest you, Tanjiro, and Zenitsu stand in front of a large maze made out of vines.

"What is this?" Tanjiro asks.

"I think it's a maze" You say after assessing the situation.

"And I'm guessing Akane is in the middle of it." Zenitsu adds.

"What are we waiting for then. I'll take the left, Zenitsu, you take the right, and y/n, you go straight. Well meet in the middle." Tanjiro decides.

"But-but I don't think I should go by myself-" Zenitsu starts.

"Hey, it's ok. Well meet in the middle ok?" You say.

"Ok..." He reluctantly agrees.

You all slowly walk into the maze. And before you know it your all alone. Wandering through the maze. You tell yourself to be careful. You don't know what could possibly be within these walls. You hit multiple dead ends. It's been at least an hour. You're lost. You lean against the wall of the maze, exhausted. That's when you feel something touch you leg. You look down and see vines rapping themselves around your ankles.

"What the-"

They start to move faster and faster up your body. you can barely see your legs any more. You struggle. Desperate to break free. The vines lace over your hands and travel up your arms. You continue to fight but it becomes extremely difficult when the vines start to cover your chest and shoulders. You can barely breath. It travels up your neck and across you face. You can't speak. There's no way you call for help now. The vines cover your nose and eyes. You can't breath. You try to inhale but no air comes in. You try to shout. To make any noise at all but it's muffled by the vines. They pull you in. Your trapped within the walls. You gulp for breath but still none comes. "This is it" you think. Your thoughts scramble, and your body starts to feel light. You feel dizzy. You fight to stay alive but the lack of oxygen takes over, and your eyes slowly close. The world is black.

You wake up. "I'm alive" you think. Your eyes adjust and you realize your in the middle of the maze. You look down and realize your FLOATING over the maze. You notice that there are vines rapped around your arms. The vines attach to the large tree that stands in the middle of this maze. As you look look around you realize your not alone. To the left of you is another girl dangling from a vine. But the vines aren't restraining her to the tree. You see that the vines are coming from her hands. You realize that this is the nature demon Akane.

"Hello there y/n!" She smiles

"How do you know my name" You respond.

"Oh! You can't remember can you?" She laughs.

"Y/n!!" A voice shouts.

You look down and see Tanjiro and Zenitsu at the bottom of the tree. You watch as they struggle to climb up.

"Finally! Now the real show can begin." Akane exclaims.

The vines holding you to the tree unwind. And you begin to free fall. Akane shoots vines out of her palms and swings from them, catching you before you fall.

"Let go of me!" You shout.

"I don't think that would be the best option" Akane laughs.

"Y/n!!! Let her go Akane" Tanjiro shouts.

You watch as Akane thrusts her hand out at them releasing a long thread of vines. They're coated with long thorns. They swing at the boys like a whip. Launching them off the tree. You can see the bloody marks in their flesh.

"What do you want!" You ask.

"You" She smiles. "Sister"
