DC would do whatever he needed to protect his States... or get back at anyone who hurt them. Literally anyone. It didn't matter who they were or even what they meant to DC on a personal level, his love for his States was stronger than with any normal human.

Even if he could probably get in trouble for it he would do whatever was necessary, but really what was anyone gonna do? He was the personification of the US government. As long as the US existed, he existed. He was virtually untouchable. Technically all the personifications were but especially him. That didn't really come into play most of the time, unless someone was trying to hurt one of them. And now somebody was.

Georgia had flipped blue for the election. It was a narrow victory and much of the state was still actually red. But regardless, Georgia turned blue overall. That didn't effect the actual personification too much - though the States' thoughts and decisions effected the actual states to a degree, and vis versa, Georgia wasn't really bothered one way or another. He went blue and that was that till next election.

Or that's what he thought. There were only a handful of humans that even knew about the personifications, and that handful included certain politicians that had to work directly with the States. It was a special department that handled State to state contact, and it was a very 'need to know' profession. They knew that the State could effect the outcome. If a State really wanted to, they could flip which way a state went in an election, it was just one of the things they could do as what they were. And that's what these politicians wanted.

It started with a few phone calls and video calls, then turned into extra face to face meetings. Georgia brushed them off every time, refusing to flip back. Why would he do that? He went blue fair and square. Maybe the next election would flip him back but not this time. He knew it was a close call but if the politicians thought it was unfair then they could hold their own recounts. He would know if anything changed and would act on that if it happened, but until then they could leave him alone.

But then it got worse... the calls got more frequent and meetings got more heated. Still, it was nothing unmanageable and Georgia thought it would stop at that, but it didn't. When Georgia was confronted while out shopping he knew it was getting bad. He still didn't say anything, though. This was his own problem, his own business. It was one of the drawbacks to being a personification and there was no changing that. There was nothing the Government could do and nothing Gov himself could do, so why even bring it up? Eventually he was sure they'd get bored of it.

They didn't get bored of it.

DC could tell something was up with Georgia pretty early on, but he didn't say anything. At least not until the Peach was caught sleeping at the table for the third time in a row. He let it alone during the meeting, letting the usual teasing ensue, but he pulled Georgia aside once the meeting was adjourned, "Hey, Georgia... you okay?"

The Peach just brushed him off, leaving DC behind and worried. He still didn't say anything, just frowned after him. He decided he would keep a closer eye on the State, though... just to make sure he was okay. Georgia hadn't been home a lot lately, so that meant more meetings to regularly check up on him.

God he needed a break...

The day DC saw a very noticeable bruise on Georgia's arm was the day he had enough. The States tended to heal pretty quickly from injuries so whatever left a bruise that dark still on the State's wrist had to be pretty serious or extremely recent. Nobody else seemed to notice it but DC did. What in the fuck happened?

The meeting was immediately ended barely before it began and the snappy tone as Gov told everyone to leave left no room for debate, just confusion. Georgia felt Gov's eyes boring into him. He tried to get up to leave but DC shut the door before he even had the chance to get up. When the fed turned to look at the State his eyes were full of worry. It wasn't pity though, just the worry between friends. He knew that it was sometimes tough being a State, and wasn't going to baby the Peach over it. That immediately set Georgia at ease. He didn't want someone to feel sorry for him. They all had to deal with shitty politicians from time to time just like they had to defend points they didn't necessarily believe in. It was the nature of who and what they were.
