"Why?" I said silently, yet it echoed through the now vacant kitchen.

My mom inhaled a sharp breath, "Look, I don't expect you to understand. Just to obey."

"How do you expect me to pack up and move again? This is the first time I don't feel like the new kid anymore!"

"I'm sorry but that's final. I want you in the car in 20 minutes; Grab anything you need. We will not be returning."

"That's it?" I say, flinging my arms up in disbelief.

"Yes."

"I hate this!" I ran up the stairs and began shoving things in the bag my mom had thrown on my now naked bed.

I followed the same routine I seemed to follow every year. But instead of spilling in a puddle of cuss words, it was tears.

This was the first time I felt normal, I felt like this was me. Ans just the thought of leaving made me nostalgic.  Sure I was used to this, ever since I was 3 all I had known was the road. That didn't change the fact that I was unhappy.

What was I supposed to tell Rose?
How do I explain to my best friend that I was running away with my mother?

I zipped up my bag and stumbled down the stairs. I didn't bother to take a last look at our house before shutting the door. Mom pushed on the gas and we were off to god knows where.
