James Potter just got out of quidditch practice and was wandering the familiar halls of Hogwarts when he heard the most beautiful voice he ever heard coming from the general direction of the astronomy tower.
Getting under his invisibility cloak he quietly creeped up the long staircase and was met with the sight of 2 girls talking.
The first girl James knew was Alice Fortescue who was Frank Longbottom girlfriend. He remember trying to plot a prank in the common room while Frank was rambling about Alice's perfect blond princess curls and her stunning sky blue eyes. The second girl James didn't really recognized but remember seeing her hanging out with Alice. He also vaguely recalled Frank saying that she wasn't really the talkative type.
James stared at the mysterious girl and thought, she is quite pretty, but not as pretty as my dear LilyFlower. But then the girl smiled and James froze like a deer caught in head lights. It was the most amazing smile James has ever seen and then he could see everything. All the beauty he missed. Her knee length dark brown hair, almost as dark as black coffee, falling in perfect beach waves. Her dark green eyes like a luscious forest at night. Her slim makeupless face with soft pink full lips.
Everything just hit him like that and he found himself thinking about Lily. He never noticed that Lily's shoulder length ginger hair was a bit frizzly nor did he notice that her green eyes were kind of murky and dull. He never noticed until he saw this girl.
"Tillie!" Alice said snapping James out of his thoughts, "I swear you are the most innocent person in the world."
"What do you mean?" 'Tillie' said with a confused expression, "I just don't get this 'thats what she said' joke." Alice started to chuckle and James found himself absentmindedly admiring 'Tillie'. Then James decided he had to find Frank and ask about this girl and walked back to the common room still in a bit of a daze. He found Frank sitting on the floor playing chess with Sirius while Remus was reading a book and Peter was cheering Sirius on.
"Do you know Alice's friend named Tillie?" James asked, his voice taking on a dreamy tone when he said her name. Frank and Sirius were so surprise that James was asking about a girl that wasn't Lily that they both just gaped at him. Even Remus abandoned his book and stared at him.
"Prongs, you good?" Sirius asked still shocked.
"Yes, Padfoot I just want to know about her," James said with a wide smile on his lips.
"Um.. well, her full name is Matilda Zimmer and she's very smart but also very quiet. I saw her get straight Os in Transfiguration when I sat behind her last year, " Remus replied with a soft smile that James might be getting over Lily. He personally along with the rest of the Marauders disliked Lily because of how much she hurt James despite James' best efforts.
"Mmm," James hummed in agreement, "Matilda."
(time skip)
Over the next couple of days James continued to watch Matilda. Yes, he still keep asking Lily out but it became less frequent and slowly started to he slowly loss interest in her and kept finding more and more flaws.
James started to notice Matilda. He found out that Matilda was a Ravenclaw and was often found at the back left corner of the library. When found out her favorite color was sage green, the next trip to Hogsmeade was spent on buying a bunch of sage green clothes. When he found out that she loved to read fantasy, he started reading Remus' fantasy novels so if he ever talked to Matilda he would know what to talk about. When James saw that Matilda smelled like fresh roses mixed with a peppermint and chocolate smell he decided that that was his new favorite scent. He also started to spend more time on his studies when he overheard Matilda telling Alice about the people with the highest grades. When he started doing homework, Remus told James that he was proud of him while Peter sighed exasperatedly but nonetheless took a leaf out of James book. Sirius also started doing homework and blushed tomato red whenever Remus praised him.
At the end of the year James hadn't asked Lily out for 3 months and summer had started.
So this is kind of short and blehh. Sorry its not very good. I'm shipping Wolfstar because like just YESSSSSS. James it starting to lose interest in Lily and James is falling for Matilda.
