I've just hung up with my friend Sia.

We've known each other since elementary school. We both got into the same college, and our first day is tomorrow. We were overjoyed, and the day seemed to drag on forever. I went to my closet to pick out the best clothing for tomorrow since first impressions are really important to me.

I was standing in front of the mirror, holding two dresses in my hands, trying to decide which one to wear. Someone came to my door and knocked. When I opened the door, I saw my father with tears streaming down his cheeks. I was concerned since he typically arrives home late. I had a feeling something awful had happened. Wiping his eyes, he informed me that Sofia had committed suicide and that we needed to get to New York as soon as possible.

Numbness has crept all over me, I couldn't believe what my dad said. This seems unreal, I asked my dad again "Is this really true?" he hugged me and explained "Jason phoned me a few minutes ago, Sofia overdosed on sleeping pills and committed suicide."

Two years ago, my brother Jason and Sofia decided to get married after dating for a year. Sofia's family was first opposed since she comes from a wealthy household. Not that we weren't wealthy, but her father, Mr. Anderson, owns hotels and clubs all over the world with his son, whilst my brother Jason owns four hotels, one of which is managed by my father. Overall, she persuaded her parents, and they married. Jason, my Dady, and I used to live in Virginia together, but after his marriage, Sofia and him relocated to New York.

I walked to my wardrobe and pulled out a basic black turtleneck dress with long sleeves that reached my knees and white shoes.

"Tiara! you ready?" Dady exclaimed.

"Yes, I'll be downstairs." I murmured quietly as I stuffed one more outfit into my bag.

We travelled to the airport. The trip from Virginia to New York took an hour and a half. I was thinking about Jason, wondering what he was up to and if he was okay. My head was overloaded with so many questions. Sofia's untimely death was something I had never considered or anticipated. She was a happy girl.

When the plane landed safely, I got up from my seat. A car arrived at the airport to pick us up, and I slid into the back seat with my father, leaning against the window, thinking about Sofia, and spaced out.

"We are here" Dady said.

We got off the car and entered the house. There were so many people in black clothes. My eyes searched for Jason and there he was, in the hallway looked so broken and crushed on the floor beside Sofia's body. Sofia's parents had already arrived, and my heart ached for them. I recalled how I felt when my mother died when I was ten years old. The mood was dismal, and everyone was as depressed and upset as I was. I overheard someone mention Sofia's brother Travis. I believe he was not present, and everybody was waiting for him.

Then an unusually good-looking man stepped in, dressed in a black suit with black straight-styled hair and radiating a powerful aura that drew everyone's attention. So, I think I recognise him; his name is Travis. I last saw him at Jason's wedding two years ago.

We returned from the funeral home after a few hours. I looked everywhere, but I couldn't find my father or Jason. When I questioned the guard, he instructed me to go upstairs. There was some noise coming from one of the rooms, and the door was slightly open. Travis was grasping Jason's collar, and his face was somewhat reddish brown, as if he had been hit in the face. I watched my father and his secretary stop Travis from hitting Jason.

What was he doing to Jason? Did he do something to cause Sofia to commit suicide? All kinds of questions began to whirl around in my head. When I entered the room, I noticed a piece of paper on the bed. I took the note and began reading it, which stated:

"Why did you do this, Jason? Why did you deceive me? I gave you everything I had, but why wasn't it enough? I can't live without your love. You were all I had to rely on and be proud of... I'm shattered on the inside. I tried my hardest, but I couldn't. I apologise to mum, dad, and Travis."

My hands began to tremble; this could not be happening. Sofia wrote the suicide note herself. My brother Jason is a great person who would never do something like this. This cannot be true. When I looked up, I was face to face with Travis. When did he approach me? I didn't notice since I was too preoccupied with reading the note.

My eyes widened as I saw him standing too close to me. His one hand reaches up to my jaw and grips it firmly. Jason dashed over to me, attempting to stop Travis. "Hey! Please leave my sister alone. It isn't her fault." Jason begged. Travis shoved Jason away from him. I took a step back to attempt to break away from his hold, and he pinned me to the wall "You will now have to pay for your brother's crime. I'll make you go through the same agony that Sofia did!" He made his point and stormed out of the room.

His words sent chills down my spine. The migraine is making its way to my head, I feel dizzy and unable to stand. I fell on the floor.

Dad came to me, "Are you alright, Tiara?"

And then everything went black.

Message from @rosesrrosie: Hello, everyone! I am quite thrilled to write this book, and I am far from flawless in this aspect. I recently started making up stories in my head to fall asleep, and this one was my favourite of all of them. So, I decided to write it down just as Wattpad has mentioned: "Your story needs to be told". I hope you enjoyed the first chapter, and thank you to everyone who is reading this. Please continue to love and support me:)
