Goodbyes are always hard. The second it leave your lips, your heart is wounded from despair, of sorrow, of desperation.

An unfathomable amount of emotional pain surges through my veins, attacking my heart. I grip my warm, sweaty hands, turning away from the shut door that separates me from my past life. A life I have already left behind.

I see Erwin standing in front of me, and he turns away. I follow him to the carriage that leads me to my new life.

As I enter the carriage, two distinct figures come into view: a man with blonde hair and a serious, calm expression, who I assume is Mike Zacharius―and Hanji Zoe. My breath hitches―she's so much more beautiful up close. Her mahogany brown hair, deep amber eyes, and rosy cheeks make her look like a teenager more than a young woman.

Her face is practically ecstatic, her hands clasped together giddily, excitement radiating off of her. As I sit down, with Erwin next to me, she can barely keep her excitement as she lightly squeals, and Mike sighs in exasperation.

"Hanji, Mike, this is Evony Angelis―the gifted engineer I talked to you about," Erwin says, and before he can continue, Hanji let outs an ear-piercing shriek.

Grabbing my shoulders, her whole body is tingling with eagerness, and she gushes,"How amazing it is to meet you, Evony! When Erwin told me a new engineer was coming to the Survey Corps soon, I was absolutely thrilled! We need more of those, you know―but when he mentioned you were only fifteen years old, I nearly had a panic attack! I can't wait to mentor you, and teach you everything―Moblit will be enthusiastic when he meets you. I just know it!" she rambles, an incredible amount of euphoria in her eyes.

I'm beyond shocked―was Squad Leader Hanji always this jubilant and gleeful? The citizens of Shiganshina always despised her, townspeople saying she was obsessed with titans and their origins, a disgusting human―I passed this off as gossip, but her happiness and giddiness are starting to seem like she is infatuated with titans. I only stare at her wide eyed as she continues to ramble on how magnificent my talent is. Of course, I'm deeply flattered―Hanji has always been a great role model to me when I was young, and she still isit seems like a dream she's actually admiring me, and I'm actually talking to her. Well, technically, I haven't even spoke a word to her yet.

"Hanji, you're overwhelming her . . . " Mike says exasperatedly.

She frowns, and says indignantly,"Well, you would've sniffed her if it wasn't for Erwin telling you not to!"

Mike's whole face flushes, and looks away in embarrassment as Erwin only sighs at their banter. "I apologize for them. They can get quite . . . excited."

I nod, still amused by their argument. The carriage starts moving, and I lift my head out of the window, staring at the place I called home for five years, knowing I have lost my home twice now. The repair shop, Senri's home, my home, fades away, until it becomes nothingness.
