"It began as a prank and ended in murder."

"Fantastic choice. I love this one." And there stood inside of B. Dalton's, Heather Watkins, showing a smile at the book choice. Her close friend, Tori Torres stood nearby, restocking some books. "It's trash. Low brow horror. It's for my stepdaughter." The woman said in front of her at the register. The smile quickly disappeared off of Heather's face at the woman's remark. Tori slowly turned her head as she watched the interaction from afar.

"That'll be $2.95." Heather said, ringing up a receipt for the woman, then slamming it on the book. She slid it towards the scowling customer. "Thank you for shopping at B. Dalton's." The older lady picked it up and walked away. "And...have a nice night!" She said, flipping off the woman as her back was turned.

"Attention shoppers. Shadyside Mall is now closed."

"You could've been nicer, y'know?" Tori asked with a laugh. "Come on! It's a great book! She doesn't know great literature when she sees it." Heather whined. The phone rang and both turned towards it. Tori went towards the phone and picked it up. "Hello this is B. Daltons." She said. "We're closed!" Heather called out.

"Since when does Heather work late?" A voice asked. Tori smiled to herself hearing her brother, Ryan Torres, on the end of the line. "I'm not sure. Extra cash maybe?" The line went dead and Heather looked up from restocking. "Did the person hang up?" She asked. "It was Ryan. And yeah." "We better go check on him."

Both walked out of the store and looked around. "Ryan?" Heather called out. No response. A noise star yelled them and they both turned towards the direction of the janitor, Martin Franklin. Tori knew him because he was one of her friends' brothers. "Night." He called out to the two of them, pushing away a trash can.

A weird whistle noise scared the both of them as Ryan himself appeared behind them. "You fucking asshole!" Tori shrieked, hitting his arm. "You know you love me. Forgive me?" He asked, pushing two cups in their direction. "I do need a ride tonight." Heather mentioned.

"That's what she said." Ryan told the two, pulling out a sex doll and groping her breasts. "God mom and dad'll kill you if you come home with that." Tori said, rolling her eyes. "You...are disgusting and yes, I don't wan to walk home alone!" Heather begged. Ryan looked at the two girls and nodded to himself. "Okay just give... Jasmine and I here fifteen minutes to close up." he said. "You gave her a name." Tori commented. "Yeah, I thought 'big tits' was kind of deflating." He said.

The three went their respective ways and Ryan heard something. A voice. "Ryan..." He turned to the two girls waking away. "What?" "We didn't say anything weirdo." Heather said. Ryan shrugged it off, but felt uneasy.

Heather and Tori walked back to B. Daltons as Heather tried to close the gate. It came at a halt right before it hit the ground. "Fuck this place." Tori said, sipping from her drink. Both began to reorganize the store before closing up and going home.

From the other side, there was a thud. A heavy one. Both girls peeked around the corner suspiciously and saw a book lying on the ground. Heather hesitantly walked towards it and picked it up. She placed it back on the shelf and felt a presence move around the store. "Hello?" She called out.

Tori noticed something on the floor. Another thud. She ran towards a book that fell near the floor. It looked like the drink they both had earlier, but with something else in it. Is that- Tori looked up and saw a person in a Skull Mask with a black cover on. A knife in their hands, they plunged it at Tori. She screamed and captured Heather's attention.

Tori looked down and saw that the book saved her life. Heather ran towards her and grabbed her friend's hand. Both ran towards the partially open gate, however both almost ran out of time. The skull mask figure followed them and grabbed Heather's ankle. Using the force she had, Heather kicked the gate and ran off with Tori.

"RYAN!" Tori yelled out. Both ran towards his store and ran behind the counter. Heather grabbed the phone off of the counter and dialed 911. "911 what's your emergency?" The operator asked. "Hi, my friend and I at the Shadyside Mall-" She looked up to be met with the eyes of her attacker. Heather nudged Tori to quickly got on their hands and knees to crawl away and out of sight. "Ma'am, is someone hurt? Ma'am if you don't answer, I'm going to dispatch help."

Both ran towards the back of the store in separate directions. Heather slid along one of the walls and Tori slid along another part of the wall. Heather turned to find herself face to face with a skull mask. "Jesus..." She muttered to herself. She slowly walked away, not knowing that her attacker was behind her. The person grabbed Heather from behind and slit her stomach, blood drawing quickly and spewing out.

Tori ran towards the direction of Heather's muffled screams. She found a lava lamp and hit the person above the head with it and grabbed Heather's hand again.

Both ran out the store and into the food court. Looking around, they tried calling for help. "RYAN!" Both screamed out. They turned in one direction and saw a custodial worker dead. Heather turned around and saw the Skull Mask killer chasing after them, gaining speed. Heather pushed Tori towards the exit, giving her one final look of goodbye.

Skull Mask caught up to Heather and stabbed her in the back. Tori feeling scared, grabbed a chair and tried to hit them. But their knife only came and slashed her in the arm. She quickly fell to her side, cradling her cut arm. Their attention went back to Heather as she was stabbed in the chest. In the scuffle, Heather grabbed the person's mask off. Tori almost fell to the ground in disbelief from what she saw.

"Ryan! Stop! It's Heather!" Tori yelled at him, hoping he can gain some sense. "Ryan? Please! It's me...it's me." Heather cried, blood coming out from her mouth. Ryan stood there lifeless still trying to stab her, then his head jerked back. Letting out a scream, Tori made her way over towards Ryan and Heather, both now dead on the ground. She looked up to see Nick Goode, the Union County Sheriff, gun pointed in their direction.

He looked shaken up as he lowered his weapon. He made his way over to the three teens, inspecting the scene. "Come on. Let's get you to a hospital." He said to Tori, gently lifting her up on her feet. He grabbed some napkins from a dispenser and placed them on her arm. She sniffed a bit, looking back at where her best friend and brother's bodies were. Both of them were murdered and it was all Ryan's fault. Fuck this shitty town.
