((Contains Some Swearing))
Dream's POVI put all my files away into their designated locations. As I grab my keys for my car, I realize I have the da- coffee with George today, soon. I probably shouldn't panic too much, right? Right. I go to my car and start driving to the coffee shop.
George's POV
As I leave my cubicle, I remember I have to go on that coffee date with Dream. I have to remember that he is an officer, investigating MY case.. I have to be careful about revealing facts about myself.
~~
A few chimes jingle as I open the door to the coffee shop. As I step inside, I look around, trying to spot Dream. It seems that he isn't here yet. I find a seat in the back corner of the shop to wait for Dream to show up.
Dream's POV
I step into the coffee shop to the sound of quiet chatter and soft jingling of chimes. I san the shop and see George, ( looking quite hot in that suit of his if I do say so myself). I walk over and see he is on his phone, reading something. I quietly sit down across from him, as not to startle him.
George glances up at me and smiles.
"Hi Dream! How was your day at work today?" He asks with a bright smile.
"It was alright, the case I'm working on is going quite well, I recently had a small breakthrough.
I see George raise his eyebrow, asking me to elaborate.
"Yeah, I found a few vital pieces of information."
"Oh? Such as?""That's confidential info Georgy" I say with a smug smile.
George rolls his eyes at me, as a waiter comes up to us.
"Hello! I'm here to take your order! Do you both have something in mind?" She asks us with a warm smile.
"Yep, I'll just have a medium black coffee." I say.
"I'll have a classic latte please" George says politely.
The waitress writes our orders down in a notepad and walks away.
"So how was your day at work today George?" I ask. I have to wait a bit before I can start asking deeper questions and investigate him.
"Same as always, just office work." He says in a bored tone.
"So.." I begin. George raises his eyebrow.
"What did you do before the station? You haven't been here very long after all.""Oh you know, odd jobs. Cashiers at grocery shops, cashiers at coffee shops, stuff like that."
"Oh, is that it? Just judging by your car.. it seems pretty... expensive for someone who has only worked as cashiers." I say doubtfully.
"Yeah, money piles up after a while." George tells me in a monotone voice.
It truly seemed unbelievable that someone as young as George, could have gained enough money for his car, and quite quickly too.
"Anyways, tell me a bit about yourself George! I hardly know you."
"Hmm, well, my favourite colour is blue, although I'm colourblind. Blue is basically the only colour I can see "normally"."
"I see, well my favourite colour is green."
"That's a nice colour." George says, without much expression. The waitress comes to our table and places down our coffee. George and I both take a sip. Seeing how the conversation isn't really going according to plan, I need to take a drastic action. A very, drastic action. One that might many things.
"So George.." I trail off. George looks up at me.
"Yeah Dream?"
"Big Man wanted me to tell you, in his exact words, "Hey Gogs, Big Man says hi."."
George freezes with his latte almost at his lips. His eyes widen, and then he hastily fixes his expression and sets his latte down.
"I see, so you talked to Tommy!" George says with clearly fake cheeriness. Oh god. He's the thief isn't he.. it wasn't supposed to be him! I need to get him to the station without causing too much suspicion.
"I mean, I didn't exactly know his name."
"I see.." George says in a cautious tone.
"Hey, how about we go on a drive together, clear our minds of the Big Man." I send out my lure, hoping to catch the prey. He bites.
"Yeah sure." He says breathily, trying to hide the exhale of relief.
I lead George to my car, and start taking a long, winding path to the station.
___
Once we are in sight of the station, George stiffens in the corner of my eye. I notice he turns to look at me.
"Dream... why are we going to the station..?"
"Oh I forgot to grab some files for my case, I was just going to pick them up, can you help me out?" George looks at me, doubt clouding his eyes, but he shakes his head, as if to clear his thoughts, and nods.
Maybe I was wrong, maybe I got the wrong George. No, I need to be safe. He has to be put in a temporary cell at least.
___
We step into the station, and I start leading him my office, with handcuffs in my pocket, out of sight. I open my office door and motion for George to step in first. He walks in, with barely any hesitation.
I quickly grab his arms as he walks in and shackle them before he can even utter a word.
"WHAT THE FUCK DREAM??" George shouts, anger evident in his voice. I say nothing and start leading him to a temporary cell. The whole way there, he is trying to fight out of my grip, and shouting profanities.
I (gently) push him into a temporary cell, trying not to hurt him in case I really did get the wrong George.
"George, you are suspected to be the thief I am meant to catch. There are several points of evidence leading to the culprit being you." I say, trying to sound professional, but my voice cracked at the end slightly. Why? I don't know. Maybe I do have feelings for this criminal. But for the time being, I have to ignore them.
"D-Dream please, don't do this! It wasn't me I swear!" George cries out, tears starting to form in his eyes. Gosh, it was unfair for him to look so pretty while cryi-
"I'm sorry George, until we find the real thief, you are the only suspect."
"Dream you should know it's not me! Come on, don't you feel what I feel? Or am I just blind?" George says, tears starting to slowly roll down his face.
It's an act. It has to be. He's lying, he's lying, he's lying. Don't believe him, don't believe hi-
"I'm so sorry George, I truly want to believe you, I do. But this is important. I'll visit everyday no matter who you are, and make sure your living conditions are as good as can be. You'll be safe here."
George nods, still having tears on his face. I reach my arm through the bars, and wipe the tears off his face. Then without saying anything, I go back up to my office to rethink all that I've done to George. Thief or not, I definitely feel something for him, and now I know that for sure...
