The morning bought a wild rainstorm. New York City's sky was filled with crackling thunder.
People ran for shelter.
She was walking on the sidewalk, her pace slow and eyes down.
She bumped into someone. "Watch it," the man hissed, his voice heavy with an accent.
Rose rolled her eyes, not bothering to glance at him. "Asshole." She started to walk away but his voice stopped her.
"What did you say?"
She sighed. Great, another idiotic tourist. "I said 'asshole'," she replied, not bothering to face him while answering. She crossed the street, not waiting for the light.
She felt eyes on her, ao she turned around.
Her gaze fell on him, the man looking at her. Rain was falling over him, making his dark hair stick to his sharp face. His eyes were light-colored and he...he was magnificent. He stood taller than anyone around. His face was blank. Calm. Collected.
The sky ripped in echoing thunder.
Rose's eyes lingered on his clenched fists.
Angry.
A bus came by, invading her vision, and when it was gone, so was the man.
