"You're on in 10," A stage hands says Cassidy fixes her skirt and watches Jamie watch his phone waiting for a message from Ginger, whether or not his girlfriend/ex-girlfriend will get back together remains to be seen.
"Show time!" Another stage hand says ushering both of them on stage.
"Good evening America! Welcome back to Love on the Air!" The Emcee says, "Our guests this evening, Jamie Denver and Cassidy Travis."
Cassidy does as she does and shies behind Jamie, who automatically shields her whenever she does that.
"Don't be shy," The Emcee chuckles as they usher both Jamie and Cassidy to their designated stations.
"The way this goes, for those who are new to the show Jamie and Cassidy will answer 5 questions each, complete a relay, and go on a date by the end of the night. Shall we begin?"
The crowd cheers and the emcee turns to Jamie and Cassidy. "I can't believe we agreed to this Cass," Jamie says running his fingers through his hair. "What've you got for us Mike?"
"First Question!" The Emcee says "For..." one of the stage hands slides out a cart with a giant coin on it the coin flips. Cassidy smiles. The coin flips, "Jamie! Would Cassidy more likely prefer a movie or picnic for a first date?"
"Picnic, park by the fountain, after the evening rush. More comfort foods than fancy foods. A PB&J would suffice over a cold soup and soggy salad right Cass?" Cassidy blushes and her answer populates on the screen.
The next question was for Cassidy about Jamie, who would rather go to the Library and read up about nanotechnology than go to the gym. The questions went on until all ten questions were answered. Whether it was because they were best friends or because they were interested in dating, no one could tell not even them. The relay was next.
Jamie lead off and set Cassidy up for success then she doubled back and set Jamie up for what she could only hope could be the best and he came in with a strong finish. It was an odd way to determine whether there was chemistry between two people, but she had to admit, it was working, she started to see it working. And he could tell that something different was going on in his chest when he looked at her.
On to the date
The date is so awkward. Two best friends who thought there was no romantic interest between them. When suddenly one of them sees the other as a potential interest, but doesn't want to jeopardize the friendship? Go with the flow. Go with the flow.
"This is weird right?" Jamie asked.
"Extremely." Cassidy agreed as she sipped her drink watching him watch her from the corner of her eye. Finally the date was over. The awkward factor gone up from zero to a ninth-five.
Now they just have to figure it out.
