When I came to, my head spun. The lights on the car were still lighting up the trees in front of me and smoke was billowing up from the front. At first, panic grabbed hold of me, but it didn't take long for me to figure out that it must be the radiator of the car leaking boiling water, no need for alarm.

I tried to move and felt my neck hurting; that was way worse.

That was when I noted that I was still clenching the silver ring in my left hand and I looked up at the sky; it seemed brighter than before.

Oh God, let me find him before sunrise!

"Damon!" I tried to yell, but it came out as a weak croak. There was no way he would be able to hear me; tears started to stream down my face. I would be stuck here while he turned into a pile of dust.

Clumsy I tried to move in the car to get out; thanking my lucky star that I wasn't stuck. I was glad I hadn't been driving the tiny rental car I had earlier; then I would surely been still in the car in the most permanent way.

"Damon!" I tried repeatedly, but my voice was hoarse and didn't reach any distances at all.

I turned to get out of the car and happened to put my arm on the steering wheel, making the horn scream out into the silent forest. I flinched, startled and my heart almost stopped, but then I realized that this may be my chance. The horn sounded eerie and unbelievable loud in the deep dark silent forest as I alternated between honking it and calling his name.

A creaking sound made me stare in between the trees as a figure came walking closer in a slow mode. I held my breath.

"Damon!" I did my best to jump out of the car to throw myself in his arms, but I was still very sore and unbelievable clumsy.

"Why can't you just leave me be, I know she won't come back, just let me get this over with," he said in a resigned voice.

The sight of him filled me with hope and then anger the next second. "Have you any idea what I've gone through to get back here? Now you get your ass over here and put this ring on your finger again!" I used my authoritative voice and that caught his attention.

He didn't expect that. There was a glimpse in his eyes and he walked closer in a guarded way; suddenly he smelled the air and widened his eyes.

"Yes, I'm bleeding, can you help me now?"

He just stood there, glued to the ground and with his eyes wide open.

"Preferably some day before I bleed out or you turn to dust, please, I said in a tired tone. "What do I have to do to make you believe that I'm no hallucination?" Finally he snapped out of the paralyses and ripped the door off the car to get me out of there.

And then I was in his arms.

My head was about to fall back in exhaustion when I remembered the real crisis. I opened my hand and reached him the ring. "Put it on!" I pressed through my clenched teeth and then I passed out.

When I woke up it was broad daylight, but I wasn't in the forest. I recognized the bedroom and with a smile on my face, tears streamed down my face. "Damon?" I heard his steps up the stairs and then he walked into the room.
