The end of the world does not just happen the way we see it on the big pictures. Those horrific scenes of robust earthquakes and mighty thunderstorms were quite distant from the truth.
Humanity did not just perish from existence. There was no rapture. No definition of good or bad. There was only human suffrage for all that humanity did so wrong to its habitat. People died out one by one, whether it was a deadly disease, a common cold, a natural disaster, or pure misfortune. Nothing was sure. It was up to those unlucky souls that were left roaming in the toxic domain to survive off of their own greed.
The town that he grew up in was still partially there. It was run down. After a deadly spread of wild rats, stores had been shut down and it became a ghost town. Money no longer held any value and people stopped working. This rendered every product at the stores free to take off the shelf.
William never considered himself an avaricious man. That was before civilisation came to an end.
So after all, it everything that was believed back when the world was still functioning was not true. Money did not make people greedy. Human are just born gluttonous, and so was William.
