Abruptly in between a lecture, a man urgently knocked.

Rolling her eyes, our professor opened the door and let him in.

"Can someone not interrupt m-"

"Ms Lee Mira! Mrs Lee is here for you." He let out, huffing as he ran quite a bit to come here. He pointedly ignored the sharp glare from the professor, making the others snicker.

Not wasting any time, I got up and rushed out. My mother never came here, and if she did, it must be an emergency.

Running towards the familiar car, I ignored the pain from the heels and pulled the door open.

"Get in." She said blankly, not acknowledging my out of breath figure as she kept staring forward.

Nodding, I got in before closing the door behind me. After catching my breath, I asked the question that plagued my mind.

"What's wrong?"

I got silence as the answer.

Taking the hint, I took a deep breath before looking out the window. As the buildings passed by, I tried to figure out where we were going.

My heart dropped as we neared a hospital.

Anywhere but here. Please. Anywhere.

Unfortunately, we drove in that direction and it confirmed the sinking gut feeling.

Reporters were outside, waiting for any snippet of news they could use. As they spotted our car, they rushed to us.

The familiar flash of lights faced me as my mom and I got out. Ignoring their questions or any remarks, we walked straight to the hospital's entrance.

"You look messy." My mom commented casually, making me grit my teeth. This wasn't the appropriate time or place to talk about my appearance.

"Let's just talk later. Where is he?" I asked, making her inhale sharply.

"In the OR." She said as I felt my mind go blank.

"You're kidding."  I couldn't recognize my voice when I spoke and stopped abruptly, causing her to pull me with her.

"Now is not the time." She snapped. "Your father is in there fighting for his life. You have two choices. Cry your heart out like a fool which won't change anything or stay strong and hope for the best to happen."

Nodding numbly, I started walking on my own. We reached the waiting room for the family and sat down in anticipation.

The seconds seemed like hours, and my heart was beating rapidly.

Please be okay.

The door opened and a nurse rushed out, running in a certain direction. Within seconds, she returned with a few blood bags and went back in.

Tears started forming in my eyes as I took a shaky deep breath.

That was not a good sign.

After what seemed like days, a doctor emerged out. My mom and I got up, anxiously waiting for the news.

"We tried our best, but due to a few complications, Mr Lee could not survive. I'm sorry for your loss." He said before bowing and walking away.

My knees gave out, making me fall onto the floor.

He's gone.
