Looking at the picture of my dad smiling, a tear fell against my wishes.

Yet another person came to offer their condolences, but nothing could ever bring him back. He was gone, and there was no changing that.

After what felt like hours of standing and listening to people talk about him- anyone can tell they barely knew him- the guests left.

No one stayed back.

Not even our own family.

My mother and I sat down, not speaking a word. We were truly alone.

"I'm going to take over your father's position in the company." She said suddenly.

I turned to look at her, shock evident on my face.

"It hasn't even been a few days..."

"The world doesn't wait for us to grieve, Mira." She said softly. "We have to move on, whether we like it or not. That's how you survive in this world."

"Do you even miss him?" I asked, not able to hold it in anymore.

"What?"

"Do you even miss dad? Or were you always just waiting to take over his position?"

Anger flashed on her face, but I continued.

"Is it the world that can't wait, or is it you? Tell me."

"Mira." She said warningly. Yet again, I ignored it.

"You haven't even cried once! You mostly talked to dad's colleagues, and I'm assuming it's about the company. Do you even care?!"

"Lee Mira!" She raised her arm and slapped me, hard.

The room was filled with silence as I looked up, holding my cheek in surprise.

"Don't you dare say such things again." Her voice broke. "You have no idea how much..."

And for the first time that night, I saw my mother sob.

I just stared as she broke down, all her walls crumbling as she sobbed her heart out. Her pained cries filled the empty room, and for once she didn't give a shit about grace.

Gulping, I muttered a sorry before running out of the room.

Walking around at the dead of the night, I thought of all the happy memories I had with my father.

He was a busy man, but whenever he got the time he would spend it with his family.

He was rich, but his gifts wouldn't be lavish. Instead, they held a certain value and sentiment.

He was a good- no. He was a great man.

Humble. Caring. Happy. Smart. Loving.

I sighed as another tear slipped down my eyes.

There were barely any people who truly cared about him, and it hurts. He deserved better.

The security guard immediately let me into my house as he saw who I was. Unknowingly, I walked all the way home.

Reaching up to my room, I looked at the necklace he gifted me. It was on my bed, laying there.

Tears filled my eyes as I sat on the floor, holding the necklace tightly in my hand.

I miss him.
