The sound of hundreds of footsteps, girls gossiping and another fifty mixture of noises echoed through the hallway. He hung his head low making his jet black hair hover over his ears in attempt to decrease the noise. He finally reached his locker which was perfectly organized, his crystal clear blue eyes scanned the door of his locker which he neatly stuck his schedule to. It wasn't like he was the new kid but he was somewhat like a shadow that drifted through the halls of Mount Rose High School. No one popular recognized him but he could still be described as social. He had what you call acquaintances; he never got close to anyone really. His actions weren't by choice but he just couldn't. He would always smile, make jokes in attempt to make others laugh but he never made it possible for you to see past that façade. It was a side of him that held him down like an anchor to a ship but it was also a side to him only he knew existed. He couldn't let anyone see how close he was to breaking. He didn't want anyone to hold him back from his destruction either.
It was the first day of school for him as a junior. He exchanged some of the regular hey and welcome backs from kids he would sometimes talk to but nothing has changed. Deep within was his greatest contradiction his soul bubbled with satisfaction and he was somewhat happy nothing has changed. "Change is inevitable" his conscience will always taunt, reminding him of his greatest fear. Change. He liked how everything was; even in his pain he wouldn't ask for anything to be different. Unlike probably the other ninety nine point nine percent of the kids in his school, he actually liked school and was a straight A student. He never really came across as a nerd but he surely had a few qualities in there.
The Bell rang and it was time for his first class of the day, English literature. He shoved his books in his bag and scurried to class. He took his usual seat at the back of the class and pulled out his books. They were doing Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. He personally thought of the book as crap but that didn't stop him from studying it anyway. He loved literature and the thought of reading and experiencing new journeys through books made him smile inside. Their teacher entered the class room welcoming them to a new school year and proceeded to start class work. She earned a few wines and groans from students who were hoping they wouldn't have to start work on the first day of school but she began reading anyway, then stopped midway to ask the class a question.
"Ok class in Julius Caesar acts 1 scene two we meet the characters Cassius and Brutus. Who can explain the relationship between these two characters" As usual the class went silent and everyone just exchanged glances. Obviously nobody knew the answer because no one studied the text or was paying attention to what the teacher was saying. Expect for one boy, he could have recited the entire text if he had to, so for him this question was minor. The teacher looked at him knowingly just before he raised his hand to volunteer but was interrupted.
"I know the answer" A girl said coming from the front of the class. His head snapped to the front of the class following where he heard her. She sat in her seat smiling widely at the teacher. She had caramel color skin and dark brown curly hair with some blond highlights and she carried such a bubbly aura that he just didn't understand. He liked school yes but there wasn't anything to be that happy about. He watched her as she answered the question with enthusiasm beaming through her dark grey eyes. He was stocked that someone other than him answered in literature class and even more shocking answered correctly. He observed her more closely and recognizes he had never seen her before. Was she new? He wondered but his mind never lingered on her for long......
