My Girl

It was a typical after school game. I made my way over to the sandlot a bit later than when we were supposed to meet. I heard someone or something rustling in the bushes behind me, but I decided to ignore it thinking it was probably a stray cat or animal of some sort.
"Sup boys!" I yelled running towards my position (left field) I usually switched positions with Benny or Bertram depending on the day. "Oh look! The princess finally decided to show up!" Ham yelled. "Oh shut it Ham!" I said giving him the finger. Everyone laughed. "Let's play ball boys!"
We just passed the ball around like we normally did. Our games were different. We didn't keep scores, we didn't chose sides, we never really stoped playing the game, it kind of went on forever. But that's what I liked about us. We're unique.
"Squints!" Benny yelled hitting it to him. "I got it!" Squints replied running to catch the ball. "Nice catch!" Ham yelled. "Yeah!" I yelled. I heard rustling behind me then I heard The Beast barking and growling. I seen the new kid from the other day. "Hey kid! Backup!" I yelled low enough only for him to hear.
"Come on, Benny, hit a homer!" I heard Bertram yell from behind me "Come on!" Yeah-Yeah yelled. "Hey, batter, batter, batter!" Squints taunted.
I heard the smack of the bat hitting the ball, and automatically knew it was a homer. "Whoa!" The kid said mesmerized by the power of the ball. "Watch out!" Ham yelled taking off his helmet. I started running backwards to catch it when the kid rammed into me from behind also trying to catch it. "Ah!" I yelled as he landed on top of me. "Get off me kid!" I stated trying to push him off my chest. I started dusting off the dirt from my shirt when the boys started laughing hysterically. I gave Benny a glare.
"Okay, I'll get it! Get it." The kid yelled. I felt bad for him, he just embarrassed himself in front of potential new friends. "Don't be a goofus. Don't be a goofus! Don't be a goofus!" I heard him whisper to himself. I left out a snort loud enough only for myself to hear. He definitely awakened The Beast, because it was growling. That's why I didn't like left field. I was way too close for comfort.
"Throw the ball back!" Squints yelled. "Come on!" Kenny yelled. "Yeah, hurry up!" Yeah-Yeah yelled. The kid finally got the ball and stood there, not knowing the proper throwing stance. "We are waiting!" Squints yelled getting impatient. "Come on! Throw it!" I stared at Benny knowing he felt the same sympathy for the kid as I did. "Come on, toss me the ball! - Come on!" "Come on!" They continued yelling.
