Bring On The Welcome Wagon |Chapter Three|

"Please tell me that isn't what you're wearing to the party?" I look down at my outfit. "What's wrong with it? I think it looks simple but still nice. I don't want to bring attention to myself." Looking down at what I'm wearing, a black button-up shirt with no collar, olive chino pants, and black loafers.

"If I was at this party love, I would not be able to keep my hands off you. I mean look at your biceps. Not to mention you can see your back is defined in that shirt. You know what the more that I think about it, You need to change. You're going to have too many eyes on you." I begin to laugh and blush at Aurora's comments about the outfit. "Do you seriously want me to change? I can, if you'd like."

" No, you look hot. I'm only kidding and I love teasing you. I like how you still get flustered." "Hey now. You know I have a reputation to uphold. I can't have people knowing that my girl still gets me shy when she complements me." Aurora sighs " You know, it won't kill you to let others in. I don't know why you can't let others in, which speaking of, are you playing nicely with the other kids?" Aurora says in a teasing tone.

"Oh my god, yes Mom. I am." I rolled my eyes and chuckled at Aurora's comment. "Despite what you think, I am playing nicely."

"Oh really? So have you made any friends yet?" Aurora asked knowing how stubborn I can be about not letting others in that aren't their family. " It's barely been a couple of days relax. How can I make friends that fast?"

Aurora laughs at my antics " It's okay to let people in. You let me in you -"I quickly interrupt Aurora" And that's all I need. I have you, the family, and my brother Erik. That's plenty." Aurora sighs knowing that when I'm set on an idea, there is no talking me out of it. " Having people that care and watch out for you isn't a bad thing." I sigh " What's that saying? Four quarters is better than one hundred pennies. Having you and my family is all I need. I have enough people that care for me."

"I know you do love, but right now we aren't all with you and you need people there to also watch over you. Please. It would make me feel much better knowing that someone watches your back the way I used to." Aurora asks hoping to get through my stubborn head " That's funny, because you just said you didn't want people looking at me." Aurora's tone goes from caring to stern "Alex" and after hearing Aurora's pleas and her tone change, I sigh. " Fine. I'll see what I can do tonight about the whole friends thing."

"Thank you, baby, and I should let you get going. Your party starts soon and you don't want to be late for making friends. I love you and have fun!" I laugh "Okay, okay baby. I'm going. I love you too princess. I'll talk to you soon, love."

After hanging up with Aurora, I add my favorite fragrance and jewelry and head out to the small gathering... or so I thought. When I arrive at the party room they are greeted by a ton of people they do not know and they can't even see any of the other team members in the sea of random people.

"Yeah, a small gathering my ass." I sigh and run my hand through my hair and start to feel a little anxious with all these people around. I had never been good with crowds because it reminded me of the foster home I grew up in. I closed my eyes and calmed my breathing down "I think it's time to take a break from this.".

As I head out to a lonely balcony I lean against a railing. This is the first time I truly feel alone so what better time to use this time to reflect on how my life had changed in such a short amount of time. How I had gone from being the happiest with my family and how quickly they were ripped apart and didn't have any contact. Honestly, I preferred it that way. Now with working with the government, I didn't want to accidentally lead the fed to the family. I also thought about Erik and how I hadn't heard from him in years. I was always hoping that he was okay but all they wanted was my family back especially so they could meet Aurora. I released a sigh "What has my life become?"
