Owetu
Two days later

It's six in the evening. The house is calm. Everyone has gone back to their homes. Some girls went with the men who chose them.

I'm presently watching Xaya stirring and tossing. I didn't know what to do so I called Oleya.

Oleya gives her ginger water.

(A/N: I do not know the remedies used to remove drugs from one's blood.)

"Will she be okay?"

"Of course. I suppose this was her first time. So, she'll be fine."

Things happened so fast.
I was sleeping peacefully the next thing I remember, a guy I have never met before is tying a thread around my wrist.

I wanted to snap the thread until I saw him with Worthy. I realised that he could be doing me a favour.
I haven't seen nor heard from the two. It's eating me inside knowing that I'm marked by a man I do not know.

"Owetu, why are you crying?"
I didn't even know I was in tears. Oleya pulls me in a warm embrace.

"My life is wrecked. How will I come out in the open? I have this thread on my wrist and I don't even know the man."
I break down and sob like a child.

"Why don't we wait for Worthy to come back and then we will inquire about the stranger."

"What makes you think he will come back after what happened? Reed is furious. Especially now that she was denied leadership."

"I don't know much about Worthy but I know he's very smart."

"Owetu."
Xaya calls out. I grab a glass of water and help her drink up.

"This headache is killing me."
She looks at her wrist and back at me.
I don't even know where to start with her story.  'Your uncle marked you'. It isn't different from mine but it's entangled compared to mine.

"Your grandmother has been asking after you."
Oleya says mixing more ginger.

"Keep that brainless woman away from me."
She gets off the bed and grabs her duffle bag which is already packed.

"What are you doing?"

"I'm leaving!"
She says coolly.

"You can't. Reed has ordered men to stop anyone from leaving and coming in."

"What really happened?"
She asks. I falter first but told her every detail of that day.

"Worthy would never do that."
She chuckles.

"That thread didn't tie itself Xaya."
Oleya speaks out.

Xaya

From what I've heard the only person who is supposed to tie the thread is a man who is taking you as his wife. Being my uncle's wife, I don't even know where to start.

I don't even remember what happened.

I haven't heard from my mom for weeks now. I don't know how she would react or how I'll get hold of her. My phone has been off for days. There is no power here. Just torch lights and candles.

I feel so alone. I've never been away from Worthy for too long. I missed his fragrance, his jokes and most importantly him holding my hand unsystematically. I just don't know if it will go back to how it was.

"Did you hear from him?"
I ask Oleya and she shakes her head.

"There's so much going on. Worthy will not leave you here alone. I'm sure he's planning on how to get you out of here."

She clarifies and I sigh.
My main concern is how to leave this place and never come back.

The first thing I'll do is ask why Worthy made me his wife. I won't hide the fact that Worthy makes girls stop and stare. His face is close to being perfect. But he's my uncle.
